Note: My first Vampire Princess Miyu fic out here, or anywhere. It's not
the best one on this site by far. However, I do like one or two of the
points I came up with and that's good enough for me. I hope you all like
it too. The characters aren't mine. Just playing with them, cause Larva
is so hot.
Love Through Darkness
"Shinma, return to the dark." The flames leapt out of Miyu's upturned hand and surrounded the unlucky Shinma, who was soon gone from the mortal realm.
Heaving a quiet sigh, Miyu sat on the edge of the roof she had been standing on, idly kicking her legs. Larva stood next to and slightly behind her, in his usual position as her silent guardian.
"How many more years will it take, Larva?" she suddenly asked.
"Perhaps ten. Perhaps one hundred," he replied in his quiet, carefully modulated voice.
"I see." She fell silent again, for a few moments, before another thought crossed her mind. "What will happen when we seal away the last stray Shinma?"
At that moment, Larva was glad for his mask. It obscured the pain in his eyes. "You seal me away."
She turned her golden eyes on him. "I don't want to seal you away, Larva."
"But you must. Your parents must be freed from the curse," he reminded her.
"Oh yes, my parents." The bitterness in Miyu's voice was palpable. "A soulless father, and a mother I failed."
"Miyu." Larva sank down onto the roof next to her, and she climbed into his arms.
"You are all I have, Larva, and in order to break the curse, I have to give you up. It isn't fair."
"Neither is putting all of the burdens of guarding the Shinma on the head of a young girl," Larva pointed out.
"Or punishing you for serving me, when you have no choice," she added.
"Oh, but Miyu, I serve you because I want to. There is no where I would rather be than by your side. I-," abruptly he cut off.
Tenderly, Miyu reached up and pulled his mask off, setting it aside. Then she placed her hand on his cheek. "I know, Larva. I love you, too."
He smiled sadly at her and kissed her forehead.
"I don't think I can do it, Larva. I can't seal you away," she confessed, for the first time voicing the thoughts she had been having for several years. However, before she had always shied away from the subject, rather than addressing it as she was.
"You must."
"Then I will seal you away, and then follow you into darkness."
"No, Miyu," his voice was surprisingly firm. "You must not end your life. Promise me that you will grow up and try to be happy."
She buried her face in his shoulder. "I promise, then, that I will grow up for you. I cannot promise to be happy. Without you, it would be impossible."
They sat for a long time, just holding each other. Miyu held firmly to the folds of Larva's cloak. He kept one hand on her small back, the other buried in her soft hair.
"My life will be meaningless without you, but there is nothing I can do about it . I must lift the curse. It is my duty," she finally whispered, resignation in her tone.
His hand took up a gentle rubbing motion, smoothing circles across her back. "Quiet now, Miyu. Do not worry yourself about it now. There are still a great many Shinma to seal away. Our moment will not come for a long time."
"Yes, you're right," she agreed, snuggling closer to him.
He smiled affectionately down at her, even as the image he held in his heart of her grown up and smiling, fell into dust.
