Kakashi was having a hard time to breath. He saw blood pouring out of the terrible wound of his chest. He could taste his blood on his tongue as it trickled out of his mouth. Although he was very injured and that his time was running out he couldn't take his beloved Sakura out of his mind.
They have been together since 6 months, but they love each other more than anything else. It wasn't an exaggeration to say that they were the most happy couple of the world. But 14 hours ago, they got a huge fight, not like the small ones they had before which were resolved in two seconds, followed by a hug. In the end, the Jounin left her house, furious yet on the edge of crying, without a goodbye, without a kiss. The last time he ever saw her before going on his now last mission of his life, she held a face deformed by sadness, tears and pain.
And now that he was thinking it, he could not remember what the stupid fight was about, or what he had done to cause her all this sadness. He regretted everything. He wished so badly to return back in the time to re-do everything, to wash away his mistakes, to change her tearful pale eyes into a vivid pair of pretty emerald ones...
But he couldn't ... And then he watched the series of flashback flowing out in front of his eyes: the happy and unforgettable moments they passed together... the shy but loving kisses they shared...the music she made when she laughed... her pretty and cheerful smile which had the power to make his heart beat faster and faster...
There was the shadow of a smile on his dying face. He closed his eyes calmly. His brows furrowed from pain as he use all the strength he had left to take a folded, wet and dirty piece of paper out of his pocket. He unfolded it delicately: it was a picture.
It was taken the day of their engagement, one month ago, when Kakashi had finally the guts to propose her in marriage. Kakashi was holding her tightly in his strong arms. Their face were pressed on each other and were displaying the best grin they ever showed to the world. Kakashi even pull down his mask for the occasion. They were both happy with each other. They were meant to be.
Kakashi opened up his eyes one by one to stare at her face and her immortal smile... her smile... for him, it was the most precious and beautiful treasure of the Universe. He wouldn't trade it for anything in the world... not even his own life. It was so radiant that even the dirt or the wetness of the paper couldn't stain it. It meant hope and happiness.
He finally closed his eyes, and despite both his mental and physical pain, he smiled with all his heart. He was happy. Happy to have someone who loved him for who he is. Happy to have find someone to give his love and heart to. He was just so happy that he didn't notice the tears running out of his cheeks and wetting his face and mask.
He squeezed the photo lovingly against his painfully opened chest as he printed the picture of her smile in his mind forever.
