Reticence

-Disclaimer: Coraline and Wybie don't belong to me--talk to Neil Gaiman/Henry Selick.

He really ought to feel ashamed, he mused.

Disgusted. Devastated. Angry.

Instead, he found himself trying to keep from, quite literally, bursting apart at the seams with joy.

After all, she was here to stay.

He'd tried to help her--sent her home, even as he knew the Beldam, in a frothing rage, was approaching with frightening speed to rain down some terrible punishment…

But in the end, she'd tripped at the finish line.

Parents forgotten.

Cat forgotten.

That other him forgotten.

As he gazed into her glittering black eyes, all he could see was his own reflection. He couldn't stop his happiness from bubbling up and lifting his rough, cloth lips into a reluctant but genuine smile.

Couldn't stop the tingling sensation that crawled through his sawdust as she grasped his gloved hands in hers, pulling him toward the garden.

Couldn't stop the heat that warmed him from within as she snuggled herself into his arms, the quiet murmurings of the not-flowers surrounding them.

Try as he might, he couldn't help but be grateful to keep her.

She touched her soft, human fingertips to his textured cheek. "Wybourne?"

He held her closer and forgot all remorse. For You.

Author's Note: I'm such a n00b…added the standard disclaimer. Also: Hi everyone! Hope you enjoy this little nothing…if this goes well I have ideas for another short and possibly a multi-chaptered fic, all focused on everybody's new favorite ship, CoralinexWybie (or is it Other Wybie? XD ) Thanks!
