'Would you both be quiet!' Draco tore open the door to his son's suite in Malfoy Manor, ready to disable their video-projection charms and amplifying spells, and cast an array of his own spells that every parent knew (though some were more on the Dark side of things, so very few people knew - let alone used, - them).
Only, when he entered the room there was no video-projection charm.
There was no amplifying spell, either.
Scorpius and Albus Potter were sitting on Scorpius' bed, staring at a small black thing.
'Oh, hey, Dad,' said Scorpius, leaning forward to tap the thing. 'Want to watch Studio C with us?'
'Studio C?' Draco had never heard of that. 'Is that something to do with Celestina Warbeck?'
Potter's son laughed. 'No, Mr. Malfoy, it's YouTube. It's a Muggle thing.'
Ah. If it was a Muggle thing, it must have been Potter who introduced it to his son. Potter was a bad influence, always had been. He should never have allowed his son and Potter's to remain friends!
'It's really great, Dad,' said Scorpius. 'I've been teaching Albus about YouTube and how it works. We're thinking about starting our own channel.'
'You'll be doing no such thing!' snapped Draco. Scorpius, his own son, had been showing Potter's brat this… whatever it was?
'Aww, come on, Dad, Scorpius pouted. 'You don't even know what YouTube is. Let me show you.'
'It won't change my answer,' Draco warned. 'I've made up my mind.'
Scorpius tapped the thing some more. 'This is an iPhone,' he said. 'I spent my pocket money on it last month, remember?' When Draco didn't respond he shook his head. 'I didn't think you would. I went out with Albus to get it.'
Potter, Draco thought. It was all Potter's doing!
'So this here, this app, is Google-' Scorpius continued.
'A googol is a number, Scorpius.' Draco sighed. Was his son really that uneducated?
Scorpius showed him the glowing front of the thing – iPhone. 'No, Dad, Google. G-O-O-G-L-E. It's an Internet browser. See on the screen? The screen is the front bit, that emits light.'
'Right. What's an Internet?'
'The Internet is a whole network of things, so you can look things up and watch videos and read books without ever having to move. YouTube is a part of the Internet.'
Draco frowned. 'Show me how this 'looking up' works. Is there an index?'
'No, Dad, there's a search bar. What's an index anyway? You type in what you want to know into the search bar up here, and Google tells you! It's awesome!' Scorpius typed in Y-O-U-T-U-B-E and clicked a button. A circle appeared on the screen, and a blue line moved across the top, and a list of words – some blue, some purple, appeared. Scorpius tapped the first one, which was purple.
'YouTube home,' Draco read out.
'Yeah, Dad. And look, recommended for me! It's Studio C, International Relations! Let's watch that!'
Scorpius chose one of the images, and a video started playing on the screen. This Internet thing really was rather fascinating, although Draco could see how it might distract his son from his schoolwork. Perhaps he should set Scorpius a time limit for Internet use. 30 minutes sounded all right.
