He knew that when he let her go, he would be left with a broken heart. Even if he wanted to move on, he wouldn't know where to pick up the broken pieces. But when he saw her smile, he figured that it was all worth it.
It has been 6 weeks since the accident. 6 weeks since she had lost the baby.3 days since she ran away from her wedding. But not to him. For Chuck. Her soul-mate. Her one and only. No matter where she goes, Chuck is always there for her. And it makes him happy and hurts him at the same time that there is someone else for her.
That day he woke up just like he does every other day. And as soon as his feet touched ground, he took a sip of alcohol from the bottle that was on the ground. Not because it's what he wants. But because it is the only way he can dull the pain of losing her. He had been doing it since the moment he brought Blair and Chuck together. But today he had difficulty in drinking it. Whenever he tries to swallow it he has a pain. But he didn't care about that. Because even that pain is much more comfortable than the pain of losing her. He just sat there drinking through all the pain when a sudden knock come from the door. With a smile on his face he opened the door. But the smile soon faded as a certain blonde came rushing in. He could tell that she was angry and hurt at the same time. Hurt when she saw his state. Angry at him because he was pining for her best friend. But she loves him. She knew that she loved Dan because she never felt the feeling when she was with Dan with anyone else. Before or after him. And he knows that Serena loves him. He knew that when she told him at Blair's wedding. But his heart has just been shattered by Blair. No matter how much he tried he couldn't love another person like he loved her.
"Hey! How are you?" She asked him sincerely as he hugged her.
He replied with a simple nod reminding her that he was "Okay adjacent".
"Rufus and mom are throwing a brunch today and I came to see whether you would like to go..." She said as he interrupted her with a simple "No".
She knew that there was no way to convince him to go so she gave him a kiss on his cheeks and left saying "We miss you". In her head she was saying I miss you.
As soon as she left Dan quickly went back to his daily routine of drinking alcohol all day. He chuckled when he remembered how much like Chuck he has gotten. He corrected himself. "Like the old Chuck". He had helped Chuck become the new man worthy of Blair. He cursed himself for doing that but quickly smiled again when he reminded himself that he did it for her. His thoughts were interrupted by a pain in his stomach. He quickly ran from his couch to the toilet and started to vomit. In his head he told himself that he was okay. That he was vomiting because of the alcohol he has been consuming. And then he vomited again. But this time everything was definitely not okay. He was vomiting blood.
