"How long will you love me?" The boy asked, afraid of an answer yet afraid of not knowing.
A pause.
"How long do you want me to?" The nearly grown man asked back, curling his arms around the little body in his he was cradling.
A beat.
"Forever?" The boy looked up through heavy golden lashes. A smile curled on the man's lips, and he pressed them to a mop of flaxen hair.
"And a day." He promised, eyes full of nothing but love for the boy.
A second.
"Liar."
