It was 6 AM and Jotaro Kujo was way more drunk than he had any right to be. He felt a bead of sweat roll down his back as he knocked back another glass of whiskey. It didn't burn his throat, the shots stopped doing that 5 drinks ago. His hand searched for a bottle, knocking over an overflowing ashtray in the process. While unscrewing the cap, he decided shots weren't worth the hassle, opting instead for a gigantic swig. Fuck, thought Jotaro, it's empty. Next thing he knew, he was walking towards his dorm's liquor cabinet.
Half way to the cabinet, he realized he wasn't walking, but was in fact on the ground, head throbbing. Jotaro had lost any and all coordination, he couldn't put coherent thoughts together, and that was how he liked it. When he was sober, there was only one thing he could think of, and he really couldn't take it. He should have already realized. How could he just have this amazing ability and not know how to use it until he was already dead? He was a fucking idiot. He was a fucking idiot for ever thinking it could work out, for ever thinking they could work out. As Jotaro Kujo stumbled over to his kitchen, he strolled on the beach, 3 years in the past.
He had just arrived in Singapore, and his hotel was already proven unsafe. It seemed like Polnareff had dealt with it, but Jotaro still needed some alone time. He breathed in the salty air, captivated by the sights and sounds of the ocean. The way the waves lapped up on the sand, the way the moonlight was reflected by the water, it was one of the few things that really helped clear his mind. Well, that and- who was the figure under that palm tree? Jotaro made his way over to investigate, the sand shifting under his boots.
"You know, they say the katydid nymph is very common in Singapore, but this is the first I've seen on our trip," said the figure, extending his hand to show off an insect. Kakyoin, thought Jotaro, what else did I expect?
"What are you doing out at this hour? It's late."
Kakyoin chuckled playfully, placing the bug on a leaf. "I was just about to ask you the same question." Jotaro smiled. On the top of the short list lof things that truly made him feel better was Kakyoin Noriaki. It was so like him to happen to be there when Jotaro needed to talk to him.
"Either way, it doesn't seem like a walk in the dark is the best idea right now. I'll walk you back to the hotel," decided Jotaro. Kakyoin agreed, and the pair set off down their sandy path.
This was the first time since they'd left home that Jotaro could say things felt normal. He and his friend walked and talked, and he observed the waves, and the trees, and the way the moon lit up the green of Kakyoin's eyes, and it was all so perfect. He didn't even mind when things got heavy, as things always seemed to do. Kakyoin talked about home, and of how he missed his parents, and his studies. There was something about it all that reminded Jotaro that he was still 17, that he had a life back at home, that after all this, life would go on. He didn't really want the walk to end, but he it occurred to him that he was already at the hotel's back door.
"Jotaro, I have a question."
An incandescent light bulb buzzed softly. Kakyoin stared at Jotaro, trying his best to hide his trembling hands.
"In light of recent events, I really don't want to sleep in a room by myself. If it'd be okay with you..." Kakyoin took a sudden pause, eyes darting between Jotaro and the ground.
"What, are you gonna kiss me or something?" Teased Jotaro. Kakyoin chuckled, then the two shared a prolonged silence. The incandescent light bulb continued to buzz. Kakyoin grabbed Jotaro's face and kissed him passionately, surprising both of them.
