#1 : Defiant

He pushed the tip of his keyblade into the dirt and stood up for the hundredth—maybe thousandth time. His armor was cracked, scratching against his wounded skin. The air was dry and filled with dust, his heart and head throbbed against his bones. He coughed up blood again, His hands felt numb again, But like hell was he going to stop.

Ventus glared at the shadow mere meters away from him. The sinking sun reflected off his mask as he tromped nearer.

"Just give it up already." Vanitas hissed. "You've already lost."

He wiped the blood from his lips. "Why would I listen to you?"

He gripped the handle of his keyblade and went into another fighting stance. The shadow rushed in for attack. He raised his weapon and blocked the first hit, the second—third. He retaliates with an upward slash but the masked boy evaded.

They both go in for another strike, and lock blades.

"You're wasting your time, idiot!" The masked boy sneered once more.

Ventus grit his teeth. "I won't let you hurt any of my friends anymore!"

Vanitas jumped away and tightened his hold on Void Gear. Swirls of darkness and violet flame engulfed the keyblade. Its owner went in for another attack. "Die!"

Light poured out of Wayward Wind and twisted around the weapon and Ventus's body. What was once metal began to tear away revealing a transparent, crystalline sword which split into six. The swords of light floated behind the boy like seraph wings. With one in hand he rushed in to counter Vanitas.

And just as their blades met, there was a blinding light and his eyes closed.

And when Ventus opened them again he was staring at the ceiling.

Where-Oh, right. His room in Master Yen Sid's tower.

A nightmare. It was just a nightmare. He sat up with a groan and rubbed his temples.

There was a knock on the door. "Ven? Are you awake? Mickey's asking if we wanted to visit Disney Town!" Said Kairi from the other side of the door.

He let out a tired sigh then smiled. "I'll be down in a sec!"
