Summary: 'She was scared. That much was evident on her angel-like face. He wanted to make her unscarred, but he just didn't know how to. I think I like you, Lucas." There mere thought sent her stomach to ice. "A lot."' Lucaya. One-shot.
Third Person POV (February)
Maya sat in the art classroom all alone, working on her latest sketch when Lucas showed up to finish a project he hasn't completed yet. The two worked comfortably but separately in silence before Lucas broke it. When Maya did her art, she liked to do it privately.
"What are you painting, Maya?" Lucas drawled behind her. She jumped, almost messing up her sketch of who-knows-what.
"None of your business, Huckleberry," Maya responded, biting her lip in concentration as she shaded.
Maya suddenly looked up at Lucas and then looked back at her drawing. She repeated this a few times before Lucas got agitated with it. He sat down on the bench next to her to see what she was doing.
"What are you drawing?" He demanded, giving her his best puppy dog face. Her eyes melted but her face remained stoney. She searched his eyes before responding.
"You, silly."
She flipped the sketch around and Lucas saw a drawing of a waterfall. He gave her a questioning look.
"Your eyes," she paused, explaining. "There's as blue as the ocean, and you're as strong as the raging rivers. I see the world how it is, Lucas."
"You just called me by my real name," Lucas observed, anxious, excited butterflies swirling in the pit of his stomach.
"Yeah, I know," Maya told him.
Lucas leaned closer into her. She was scared. That much was evident on her angel-like face. He wanted to make her unscared, unscarred, but he didn't know how. But he tried anyway.
"I think that I like you, Lucas." There mere thought of liking Lucas sent Maya's stomach turning into a hunk of anxious ice. "A lot, actually. I'm just not sure that I can trust it."
"There's no maybe about it for me," Lucas assured her, pressing his lips onto hers. The kiss was soft, wanting more, but lasted just long enough for the both of them.
"Tell me again what you were drawing?" Lucas asked her, a smile playing on his lips.
"Doesn't matter. I found a much more interesting subject," Maya responded breathlessly, laughing. She kissed him again, this time more intense.
"I love you, Maya," Lucas told her honestly.
She took a deep breathe before responding, "I love you too, Lucas."
"I'm glad you finally know my real name," Lucas teased.
"I always knew it. I was just too scared to use it," Maya explained. The two teenager's lips met once more.
