Decievers of the Banished:
Chapter 1;
"See that up there?", I pointed towards the vastness of streaks splashed across the night sky, veiled by the misty clouds, "That is the city of Eden". I rested my head on my hands, without taking my eyes off of the moon. My eyes widened as a glint of sparks flared amongst the blazing stars, illuminating the whole sky. Soft petals collided from the cherry blossom tree, gradually falling towards the grass. The city lights of Tokyo flickered, like the twinkling stars. When I had noticed Yukio, my little brother, lost in thought, I gently nudged his side, yet he seemed unfazed. I tried again, and only then did he notice my presence. I scoffed at the idea that he ignored me, but was quickly surprised to hear him whisper, "What's the city of Eden?". I eagerly replied, "It is a place which has been mentioned throughout the ages, a city concealed within the depths of the sky, one in which Legends reside." I turned to face Yukio, only to find him gazing at the sky with awe. A small, but noticeable smile crept across my face as I had realised he must have taken an interest to this city.
Yukio squinted his eyes and peered intently into the array of stars, searching for any signs of life. "Don't waste your time looking for it", I mumbled, "I've tried many times before". Getting up from the ground, I stole a quick glance at Yukio. If there was one thing I knew about my brother, it was that he is a deep thinker. Whether this was a good thing, I couldn't tell.
"It's getting late.", I muttered, "You should head back home now." He quickly replied with a "why?", and I shook my head in disbelief. I sighed heavily, earning Yukio's attention. "Sometimes there are... things we don't know of, and they-" I trailed off sentence as I jerked my head around to face him, "And sometimes they are there for no good." Yukio sat bewildered and shrugged his shoulders in defeat. He reluctantly stood up, and began to walk off.
The door of the orphanage creaked open, whilst we stood outside, dreading another lecture. Yukio gripped my arm with his trembling arms. He was shivering. We heard pounding noises emanate towards us. "Don't worry Yukio, it'll be alright", I spoke in a hushed tone. In all honesty, I wasn't sure whether I was trying to convince Yukio, or myself. I guess it was the inevitable when we saw the door being slammed before us, that we would end up without a home. If that's what you'd call it.
What happened next, took me by utter surprise. When I had turned around, Yukio was silent, too silent for my liking. His grip on my arm increased and I wondered, since when did he have such strength? "This place you talk about," he suddenly spoke up, "Eden, is it? How do we get there?". My mind went blank for a second as I was unsure of what to say. Truthfully, even I wasn't sure. "Uh, well...," I began, "I don't actually know of anyone who…", Yukio took this as a no, and I knew it wouldn't end well for me. I gulped out of nervousness since his demeanour had completely taken a change for the worse. It didn't take me long to notice the shade of red glistening on his eyes, perhaps he was tired? He noticed my uneasiness, and a slight smirk made its way onto his face. I couldn't make out what kind of expression he had, but one thing I knew was that it certainly began to make me worry.
"Yukio, are you ok?", I inquired. He raised his eyebrow and answered, "I'm totally fine, but I don't know if you will be." In an instance, I yanked my arm out of his grip and stumbled back. What had gotten into him? "This isn't funny.. Come on, let's find somewhere to stay for the night", I suggested. Not a single move was made. He began to laugh maniacally and only then did I realise; he wasn't my brother. "What have you done to my brother?!" I cried. "Rin, you're not scared are you? What could I possibly do?", he stopped to place a finger on his chin and tapped at it as if he was thinking, "I mean, I am your little brother after all". He took a step towards me, and suddenly collapsed. A trickle of blood seeped from his mouth, and his skin appeared pale. I stood in shock as I couldn't comprehend what had just happened.
"Don't look so surprised", a voice spoke. "You- You just killed my brother!" I screeched. A figure emerged from the shadows. "That was not your brother, I'm pretty sure you've realised by now. It was merely a demonic spirit, attempting to steal an ability you possess."
An ability I possess? Before I could reply, I heard another voice. "Come with us. Just like you, we are in search of Eden." I suddenly looked up at the 'people' before me, my heart pumping rapidly. All eyes were on me, all expecting an answer. "How do I know I can trust you?". Both figures looked at each other, then back at me. "Does this answer your question?".
