Misaki POV

"Misaki! Hurry come here right now!" My mom yelled. I lazily got up and walked towards her voice. "Hurry up!" I noticed her voice cracked as if she was sad. At that point I ran towards her and she had tears in her eyes. "What's wrong mom?" I asked a little out of breath. "You got a letter from him." She answered her hand shaking as she slowly handed me the envelope.

My eyes immediately began to water my hands trembled uncontrollably as I reached for it. Takumi was shipped off to war months ago I don't know why he left but he left on his own. That day was the worst day of my life. I told him he can stay I'll hide him I didn't wanna see him go. I wanted him to be home with me I didn't care about the consequences of any action we take. I just wanted him with me. I sat down on the kitchen table my mom sitting next to me. My heart raced, my palms began to sweat.

Taking a deep breath I opened the envelope reached inside and saw a piece of paper. my heart dropped it had blood on it. My mom squeezed my shoulder, "it's not his if it was he wouldn't have been able to send it." I gave a weak smile and continued to unfold the letter and read it.

Dear Misaki,It's been hard here the last few days. Bombs drop on us every other day killing 2 or 3 and wounding another 4 or 5. I'm writing this in the hopes that I can see you again soon. I miss your smile, that day I left was a day I won't forget you held on tight to me and your tears felt like bullets on my back. I'm sorry I'm causing you so much heartache but it's for the country. Patrols get ambushed all the time I was one of the lucky ones who avoided death. I guess I am an alien cause how bullets miss me while they hit everyone else I don't know.Misaki please don't cry for me while I'm gone I know it's hard for you. Your probably looking out the window seeing if I'll come back or if another man will come bearing a flag to hand you. I'm hurting as much as you are right now the distance and the tears I shed for you and my fallen brothers. I love you very much and I will fight and continue to fight till I get on back home. Back home where I belong.

The rest of it was covered in blood and was unreadable. I looked down a hole on the paper it was a bullet hole. The blood was his. I buried my hands in my face. My mom held me. We heard the doorbell ring me and my mom both knew it was a soldier ready to present us with Takumi's flag.

We looked at the door slowly I got up and walked towards the door my steps slow and my body weak. I opened the door looking down all I saw was a pair of light tan boots. I looked up and saw camouflage pants continuing I saw a matching jacket and finally blonde hair and emerald green eyes looking at me with tears flowing down. "Misaki" was all Takumi said as he hugged me I dropped to my knees and cried hugging him tightly.

"I'm home" he whispered.
