Is She Wearing Her Engagement Ring?
Kira was having a hard time stifling his laughter at the look on his friend's face, even if it wasn't in perfect definition on the monitor.
'Can't you just give me a straight answer?' Athrun asked, running his fingers through his hair. Blue in reality, the artificial lighting made it seem almost black.
Kira could hear Lacus singing behind him as she folded the clothes. 'You're asking the wrong person the question,' he teased back. 'Cagali will be here any minute if you want to ask her.'
'God Kira, I'm talking to you, not your…sister.' He still stumbled on that; they all did. Time was the barrier, and it was odd not knowing about the existence of your twin for so long.
The brunet's lips tweaked up into a slight smirk. 'Truth be told, Athrun, I actually don't know.' And he didn't. 'Cagali's been terribly busy lately and it's quite cold in Orb now.'
'I suppose it is.' Athrun's brow furrowed slightly. 'I suppose it was too forward of me, and hasty.'
'Not at all.' The smirk grew wider. 'You never actually asked her to marry you.'
'Kira!'
A knock on the door interrupted the bubble of laughter that threatened to pop. Lacus stopped singing and went to answer it. Kira, knowing it was Cagali, stayed on the phone with his friend.
Athrun didn't seem to have picked up the disturbance. 'An engagement ring is pretty obvious,' he said, 'and not everyone is as naïve as you Kira, so you can stop laughing.'
'Who's laughing?' Kira said innocently. 'Though you know, asking if Cagali's put on her engagement ring is totally the wrong question to ask.'
Athrun stopped halfway in formulating a reply at the sound of Cagali's voice. 'Kira, I hope you're not trying to play matchmaker for your big sister.'
'It's Athrun, not me.' Kira put his arms up in mock surrender, pushing the swivelling chair back so Cagali could get a better look at the screen. 'How about I just leave Athrun to you then?'
He didn't bother waiting for the reply, although he knew he'd get an earbashing from Cagali afterwards…if Athrun didn't manage to distract her.
