I opened my suitcase and started to put everything I thought I would need in it. I heard a knock at the door and my friend Eloise came in and smiled at me, I was the first to be leaving and you could tell everyone was upset about it, which did make me feel good, it was nice to think everyone cared. Overall there were 23 children in the house, technically it was a care home but everyone called it a castle, our little castle on a cloud.
Everyone was being forced to leave because of money problems, it was free to stay there which meant money was always a struggle. I was left on the castles doorstep when I was young but my mother had kept in touch, she had arranged for me to go and live with an innkeeper and his wife.
The lady that ran the castle was called Maryam and she was possibly the nicest person in the world, she always wore white and read everyone a bedtime story, she was like a mother to me and all the other children.
I finished packing my suitcase and closed it with a struggle, I had tried to fit as much as possible in it but I hadn't got half my stuff in it. I looked out of the window and saw a man in blue with a long beard standing there looking impatient. I looked at him and inwardly sighed as I realised who he was, Monsieur Thernardier, the man I was to live with for the rest of my life. I was hoping the family would be nice but if he was anything to go but I was doomed.
I picked up my bag and dragged it downstairs. Maryam smiled at me sadly and said goodbye, then, I opened the front door slowly turned round and closed it again slowly. I realized this was probably the last time I'd ever see the house, ever touch the door knob. I held back tears as I walked towards Monsieur Thernardier, I didn't look back.
