This is just the prologue to a story a started a while ago and I just decided to publish it. However, due to other stories piling up, I will not be continuing this one until I have more time. But for the time being please enjoy this short little "sneak peek" :)
I ran. Harder than I ever had before. I couldn't stay, I'll never go back. There's no one in the world who understands me, what I'm going through, except one person. The one who understood from the beginning and the one who always will.
I kept going until I came to Cleary's Foster Home and snuck around to the back. I picked up a small pebble and tossed it up to the second story where it tapped against the window closest to the south wall. There was a dim light inside so I knew he was awake. A few stones later a brighter light turned on and the window opened and the head of my best and only friend in the world appeared. I showed him my backpack, which was slung over my shoulder, and he nodded. His head disappeared for a minute then came back. He hung his bag out the window and dropped it. I caught it easily and set it down, along with my backpack, then went for the ladder before he even had to tell me. We both knew the drill. We had done this enough times before.
The ladder was lying on its side against the house and I dragged it to the spot under his window. Trying to make the least amount of noise possible, I slowly leaned it against the house where he could get to it easily. I started looking out for other lights in the windows or the porch light coming on, in which case I would need to get rid of the ladder and hide. I didn't even really need to look; I can sense that kind of stuff.
When he finally made his way down after what felt like an eternity, he wrapped his arms around me in a hug. The kind that I never got at home. This is the only place where I felt as if I belong. "Are you sure?" he said softly as to not wake anyone up.
"I think so." I whispered back. Actually, I had never been more sure of anything in my life.
"Do you want to talk about it?" He said, breaking the hug and now just holding my shoulders at arm's length.
I shook my head. "Not here. Let's get to the bridge first." I moved over to the ladder and started dragging it back to its place near the wall. He came over to help me and when we were finished we walked back over to where our bags were. Tossing mine onto my shoulder, I looked back at him one more time, his dark brown hair looking blue in the moonlight. Then we took off into the night.
I know it's really short and everything is really vague but it's like that on purpose ;) I plan on making this a very mysterious story; leaving a lot to the imagination. Please let me know what you think in a review and keep in mind that I will not be updating this story for a while.
Thanks for reading!
