Title: a world without me

Summary: "Would my presence even affect anyone?" Drabble, One-shot

She sat there alone in her thoughts as the distant happy laughter lingered in the house. She was never really one to stay at a social event for too long unless she absolutely needed to be. This was just one of many parties where she really wasn't forced to be there.

The stars glistened as she pondered and it was a truly beautiful sight that she couldn't help but admire them. This world was so bittersweet with hardships and wonderful memories. She couldn't imagine a world where she had never even met her amazing friends that were currently in her house.

Wait. No, she could.

If her brother hadn't let her family die in the embers of screams and blood, she wouldn't be here, or rather... be as completed.

She would have never been taken and trained to be a beast for someone who was selfish and conceited, to use a little girl to protect them from harm. She would have never forgotten her mother and father and even her retched, lovely brother.

She would have been absolutely normal, and that scared her more than anything. The Hunter exam would have taken place where only Killua, Gon, Kurapika and Leorio met. She'd also probably go to school to have girly friends and actually be talkative as she was before any tragedy ever happened.

She would be nothing to anyone. Not anyone important to her that is.

"Jun," His voice. So calm... laced with wise words and death. "A penny for your thoughts?"

She looked back at his shadow in the glistening dark where only the right moon shone on his face and body. He looked concerned. Always concerned.

"Oh, it's nothing really. Just wondering about... what would've happened if we never met, or if my parents never died." She answered truthfully because she knew she could never lie to him. He always knew when she told false words, maybe because he was a liar himself.

"Hmm. You'd probably be... ordinary?" He himself sounded confused of her statement, but she wouldn't blame him. She always thought too hard on the oddest ideas.

"But that's the thing. Could you really imagine another world or um, universe where this-this whole future never happened between you and everyone, because I was never there? Or would my presence never really affect anyone?" She bit her tongue. Damn, she always spoke too much when she could. Ironic since she was always known as the quiet one in the group.

Heavy, thick silence enclosed between the two. All that was heard were the crickets and a faint sound of music from downstairs.

After a few agonizing seconds, he softly responded.

"I think whether or not you met me or Gon, you wouldn't have really changed anything that has went on up to this point... except the way I see things." He looked up and stared at her with his firm gaze. "You... I love my life because of you. I want to have an actual family of my own because of you. I have a romantic future because of you. So... thank you."

They held their breaths as the silence quickly came back into the room. She looked away and grabbed herself in embarrassment.

He laughed after that and slumped next to her and sighed muttering about humiliation.

Slowly but not reluctantly, she lied next to him processing what he had just voiced.

His electric blue orbs lingered on her features before cuddling and shutting his eyes into slumber. Quietly, she muttered the words that only he and herself could hear,

"I am so blessed to have you as my husband and the father of my child, Killua."
