The line 'There will be no off the job' is for me (a big Jibbs shipper, I refuse to believe she's dead) one of the saddest lines in NCIS *cries* but when re-watching the episode I couldn't help but notice Jenny's eyebrows twitch (a sure sign she's lying) this story was what I wished had happened.
Please feel free to tell me if this story sucks, I felt it should be MUCH longer, but I had no idea what else to say and reviews are always welcome *hint hint*.
Disclaimer: I don't own the characters or the show NCIS it belongs to CBS and Don Bellisario (I tried to steal it but they caught me *sad face*) as otherwise this would be real not fanfiction.
She had been a damn good field agent, he couldn't believe that she had chosen to do this job but then he knew better than most that she had always been ambitious.
Seeing her again after all this time especially as his boss, their roles reversed only opened up the wounds she had ripped open when she left. Wounds that had only just begun to heal, to let him trust again. To love again.
She had been the only one he had ever loved like Shannon and now more than ever he regretted not telling her that while he still had the chance, before she had left him.
Again just like Shannon.
The difference was of course that Jenny was back. That as much as he hated it as much as it would drive him crazy he couldn't help that after all that had happened in Paris, even after she had left him with only a letter and memories, he still loved her like he had never loved anyone since that fatal day when he had first been left alone.
He glanced round the deserted bullpen not sure what he was expecting to see, it was then he saw her. Leaning against the wall her eyes locked onto him was one Jenny no, Director Sheppard.
She spoke, her voice full of longing, regret and vulnerability "Still here Agent Gibbs?"
"I could say the same to you Director" he said coldly, shocked at how quickly they were able to fall back into their old patterns.
"Off the job it's Jenny" she replied
"I thought there wasn't going to be any off the job" he had said it without thinking, his guard down with shock.
Quick as a shot she replied the hurt his comment had caused her visible "I thought you could always tell when I was lying?"
Raising his head he said "Why else do you think I'm still here, your eyebrows always twitch when you lie"
Their eyes connected and in that split second each of them understood the other perfectly as they always had and could see the words that they both were far too stubborn to say.
I'm sorry
Jibbs Jibbs Jibbs Jibbs Jibbs *** Jibbs Jibbs Jibbs Jibbs Jibbs
Late that night as they lay under the covers Jenny thought to herself "How did I get so lucky?"
What she didn't know is that at that exact moment Gibbs was thinking the same thing.
They were both content.
At last.
