His hair was as dark as the midnight sky. The wind would blow it in front of my face when he approached me from behind. He'd fill my nose with his intoxicating scent. He smelt like late spring; sweet. His lean, but otherwise strong arms would grasp me loosely, hands landing on either side of my waist. He'd place his head gently on my shoulder so I could hear him breathe. Together we'd watch the sun set on Soul Society.
I'd slightly lean backwards so my back would graze his well built chest, but he'd pull me in further to him so I relied on him to support me. As the sky turned into a dark orange, he'd whisper sweet words into my ear.
"Beautiful, isn't it?" he'd say.
And I'd reply, "Very. I wish it'd never end."
I'd feel his grip on my body tighten and hear,
"It must. Or else I wouldn't be able to say I loved you for another day."
A slow, small smile would spread across my face. I'd turn in his arms and move three locks of his hair out of his face. His eyes, dark and mysterious, connected with mine, bringing us into a world where there was no one else, but us. I felt safe here in his arms. My sanctuary was in his heart and I had been there for the past few years. My lips smoothly touched his own and I felt a wrenching in my stomach. The type of wrenching that feels like true love. It felt like a dream. The only thing that could ruin this moment was if I woke up.
And I did.
"Damn…" was the only word that spoke from my lips.
I turned to my side and saw his sleeping figure beside me. Smiling, I brushed his midnight hair from his face and kissed his cheek. He tightened his grip around my waist, assuring me he had felt that kiss.
I relaxed and drifted back to sleep to rest for another day where I could love Byakuya again.
