""I'll never forget the first time that I heard, that pretty mouth say that dirty word."

"Did you just?-"

"Did I just what Soul?" The cracker I had sitting between my lips slipped out and sadly shattered on the floor in a heap of dust and sadness. She just said dick! I continued to stare at her wide eyed, unsure of how to react. I was after all treading unknown dangerous territory. Maka cussed of all people! "Ugh! Why do you eat so messily? You practically dropped the whole thing on the floor!" I blinked at her and shrugged, however the look in her eyes told me that a.) That was the wrong response and b.) I'd probably need an ice pack… I stood slowly, never taking my eyes off the fuming beast that was Maka Albarn. I rose my hands up in front of me in a weak attempt to calm her.

"C'mon Maka, it's okay. I'll clean it up!" Without breaking eye contact I slowly crouched to pick up the mess. Her eyes narrowed into slits and I finally looked away, grumbling under my breath. "Sheesh what got your panties in a bunch?"

"What did you say about my underwear you perv?!" My eyes widened and I stood up quickly.

"What? No! Ew gross! Why would I ever say anything about your underwear? They're probably super ugly a-OW!" I fell to my knees, my hands flying up to cradle my burning skull. "You didn't have to hit me you, you WITCH!" She gasped indignantly and waved her book in my face again.

"What did you call me you jerk!?"

"I called you a witch! Why do you always hit me? I didn't do anything to you!" I growled angrily and stood up to leave the room. The scowl on my face deepened when she flew in front of me with her arms spread out. "Move Maka."

"No!"

"Why not?! Why are you being so childish!"

"I am NOT!"

"Yes you are!"

"Soooul!" I rolled my eyes and ducked around her, slamming the door to my room shut. I sighed loudly and threw myself on the bed, irritation building up in my chest. I cursed darkly and punched the pillow a few times before frowning at my own childish behavior, let alone how uncool it was in the first place.

"Ugh, now why do I feel so guilty?" I grumbled to myself and rummaged for my headphones, I shoved them over my ears and ramped up the volume before I lay back down and closed my eyes.

Hmm, something smells good… I opened my eyes and looked around groggily, the lap light was on now, casting a dim light around the room. I frowned and shut my eyes again, willing the annoying light away. At the same time I noticed the silence from my lack of headphones and I turned slightly only to have my face come in contact with a delicate almost doll like hand. A soft yelp caught my attention and my eyes shot open and locked with mossy green.

"O-Oh hey, you're up. I um… Made you cookies, and tea." I blinked at her quizzically and sat up slowly, my hand reaching up to my hair to run through my tangled locks. I tilted my head at the bedside table, sure enough there sat a small plate with cookies and quite the most dainty cup of tea I have seen since forever.

"Uh, thanks?"

"Yea…" I looked over at her again and suddenly yawned in her face. Regret instantly filled my chest and I just stared at her with wide eyes. Surprisingly she did not react, she just stood there looking down, her hand clutching her arm tightly. I frowned when she frowned and I reached for her hand hesitantly, once again marveling at how soft her skin was. I wonder if that's why she wears gloves? I never took her for someone to worry over her skin...

"Are you okay Maka?" She shook her head and grimaced.

"I'm sorry Soul, I was so rude to you and I know you didn't do anything but still, I took it out in you anyway. You're right, I am a Bitch." My eyes widened once the last word left her lips and I tugged her over to the bed till she sat on the edge.

"Hey, Hey you broke your own rule! 'No cussing in the house.' You can't be doing that." She shook her head, her shoulders slumped over. "Anyway, I didn't say that."

"But that's what you meant! Besides its true. We've been partners for a year now and I'm always so mean to you. I'm surprised you haven't wanted to leave me yet." I sighed and glanced back down at her hand, giving it a tight squeeze.

"It's not cool to break a promise Maka. Besides, I uh, I could be nicer to you too ya know." She exhaled slowly, her pigtails bouncing with how vigorously she was nodding her head.

"Yea."

"Hey! You're not supposed to agree!" She laughed then, quite the musical thing. I grinned as each note touched my ears. She lightly punched my arm and nodded toward the cookies she brought.

"Eat them while they're warm Soul." I swiped the train up quickly and shoved two in my mouth.

"Fhow tese are goof!" Her eyes narrowed and she pressed a hand to her temple.

"Soul…" I couldn't help the cackle that left my lips.

"Haha! Alright alright. Soo… why'd you cuss?" She sighed and snatched a cookie from the tray.

"My papa. He upset me earlier. Embarrassed me in front of the whole class."

"While I was in the bathroom?"

"Yeah…"

"Why didn't you tell me?"

"I just… didn't want you to laugh too." I frowned and looked her over again. She was cradling the cookie in her hand as if it was a lost creature. What really got me though was the water that was building up in her eyes.

"Maka, I'll… I'll try and be better, okay? So don't look so down." She sniffed and turned to me, a soft smile on her face.

"Me too."

"Good, so we cool?" She nodded happily and held up her hand. I grinned and grabbed it tightly.

"Yea, we're cool."
