Repeating
a school assignment
Flash!
Jonas awoke to the sound of a crying infant. When he looked around, he recognized his surroundings to be his sleepingroom.
Did I dream that whole thing up? Jonas asked himself. When he pulled the blanket from his legs, the answer was apparent. His knee was raw and red, and a brace reinforced his sprained ankle.
Could it be true that life had reset itself, sending him through a time loop, or was Jonas being punished for breaking the major rules of the community?
In remembering the situation of Gabe, he ran out into the main room of the dwelling. "Gabe? Gabe!" he called, running through his dwelling. When he got to the dining area, Father and Lily bent over something on the floor, and Jonas saw with great relief the tiny figure of Gabriel.
"Jonas, Jonas!" Lily called excitedly when she saw him. "Gabe's all better, Jonas! He isn't going to be released! Isn't that great?" she said. Jonas smiled. Father stepped back, and Jonas picked Gabe up and hugged him.
"We almost made it, Gabe. Next time we won't come back."
