Homeless Heart

Carly sniffled quietly, trying to hold back tears. She couldn't believe it. Her room was destroyed.

"Come here kid." Sam said, holding out her arms. Carly put her arms around Sam, and Sam put her her arms around Carly's waist.

"It's ok, Carls." She said, trying to comfort her. "If you want you can stay with me and my mom." When Carly's crying got louder, Sam realized that was not the right thing to say. She led Carly into the hallway and both of them sat down against the wall. Sam, not sure what to do, thought about what Carly would do if the roles where swapped. One thing Carly would do anytime Sam was upset or sad, she would always sing to her. Sam thought about what to sing, but suddenly, it came to her. She started humming softly, then started singing.

Lonesome stranger
With a crowd around you
I see who you are

You joke, they laugh
Til the show is over
Then you fall so hard

If you're needing
A soul-to-soul connection
I'll run to your side

When you're lost in the dark
When you're out in the cold
When you're looking for something that resembles your soul
When the wind blows your house of cards
I'll be a home to your homeless heart

Carly stopped sobbing, then slowly looked up at Sam, who hadn't stopped singing.

Open close me
Leave your secrets with me
I can ease your pain

And my arms will be
Just like walls around you
Come in from the rain

If you're running
In the wrong direction
I will lead you back

When you're lost in the dark
When you're out in the cold
When you're looking for something that resembles your soul
When the wind blows your house of cards
I'll be a home to your homeless heart

Sam slowed her singing, as if she were going to stop, but Carly urged her, "Keep going." Sam smiled, and kept singing.

Broken
Shattered like a mirror
In a million pieces
Sooner or later
You've got to find
Something someone
To find you and save you

When you're lost in the dark
When you're out in the cold
When you're looking for something that resembles your soul
When the wind blows your house of cards
I'll be a home to your homeless heart

When you're looking for something that resembles your soul
When the wind blows your house of cards
I'll be a home to your homeless heart

I'll be a home to your homeless heart

After she finished, Carly was smiling, seeming to forget the disaster that had just happened a few minutes ago. Sam hugged her again, squeezing her lightly before letting go.

"Where did you learn that song?" Carly asked.

"I wrote it." Sam admitted, blushing a little from embarrassment.

"It's beautiful." Carly complimented truthfully.

Sam smiled, then replied, "Thanks, cupcake."
