Three weeks. That was all. Only three weeks had past since Sonny left for deployment and Davis for OCS. Three weeks that already felt like three months, and time was steadily moving slower. Sonny was doing everything possible to keep his cool without letting on that anything was different with him. Deep inside, though, especially during the down time, he was losing his mind a little bit.

When they left Virginia Beach, things with Davis were great, better than great, but being away from her for three months was already harder than he could have predicted. It had taken Sonny nearly the whole first week before he figured out what what was going on with him physically wasn't just the local cuisine. There was a correlation between the twinge in the pit of his stomach and the gnawing in his chest and he finally realized that this is what it felt like to really miss someone. The feeling was miserable and Sonny did not understand how the other guys did this time and time again, but he also never wanted to be apart from Davis without this feeling again.

Sonny finished his beer and stood up from the table at the local establishment the guys had frequented recently. "I got the next round," he said to the rest of the team, knowing that would buy him a few minutes alone, away from them. They all nodded in approval as he headed towards the bar, glancing back once to make sure no one was watching him, then slipped through the exit to the busy street out front. Sonny noticed an underpopulated area across the road and made his way towards it, hoping to find a quite place for a moment.

Ducking around a corner, he pulled out his cell phone and took a deep breath. Sonny fumbled with the buttons as he scrolled through the contacts, pausing when he reached 'Davis' in the list. He'd considered changing the name to 'Lisa' after they started dating, but figured he should leave it alone, just in case anyone ever noticed her name on the phone. He would still called her Davis around the team, but, when they were alone, using her first name had quickly become one of his favorite parts of their relationship.

He pressed the dial button and nervously waited for the other end to pick up. There was a pulse of excitement when he heard he 'click' on the other end of the line, but the realization sank in as Davis' voicemail message started playing. He smiled just hearing the sound of her voice and wondered if she would have the same response when she heard his.

"You've reached Lisa Davis. Sorry I can't get to the phone right now, but leave me a message and I'll get back you."

BEEP.

Sonny panicked for a second, unsure what to say, or even when she would be able to listen to the message. OCS had very strict rules when it came to personal time; basically it was non-existent. He cleared his throat and began to speak.

"Lisa... hey... it-it's me. I, uh, I know you probably won't get this for a while, but, well... I was just, uh, thinking about... you... and... I, um, I hope you're givin' 'em hell. You deserve this." He paused and adjusted his hat, trying to decide how to finish his message. "Well, I gotta get back. I, uh, I mi- I'll talk to you later."

Sonny hung up the phone, shaking his head, frustrated with himself for not telling her how he felt. There was so much more that he'd wanted to say to her, but didn't know how. In person, Davis always knew how to read between the lines and interpret his silence. He only hoped that, for the next few weeks, she'd do the same with the messages he would leave her.
