Standing in the gloomy spotlight of the moon, the haze of the flat city lights merged with blue-black skies. Goosebumps surfaced over his bare back as he lent over the balcony. He watched the motionless city beyond him, smiling at how naïve they were to the worlds above them.
His blue eyes glowed, shattering the mask he was inclined to wear. They shimmered with wonder and awe. Undeniably, here in Cardiff, the rift was prone to spitting out the crap and scum of alien life, but it provided them with purpose and knowledge, so much knowledge. And Jack, that's what he was most appreciative of, out of all the garbage it brings to Cardiff, the rift also brought him Jack. The infuriating few stories Jack expresses to him of his past keeps up his belief. There is more out there than just weevils.
A shiver trickled down his spine, lingering on the shiny white scar glistening on his back. Feeling it twinge slightly he had to blink back tears. Yes, the rift gave him a purpose in life. Yes, it gave him knowledge and puzzles. Yes, it brought him to Jack… but not without a price.
Suzie had gone mad. Toshiko and Owen died in the line of duty. And Lisa, 'Lisa' he murmured, the name tumbling from his lips.
Bowing his head, his eyes droop shut. Screams echoed in his head, he could see them surrounding him, their metallic eyes hollow. He started gagging as the smell of blood hit his nostrils. Dry heaving over the balcony, he felt someone's large hands circling on his back. "Ianto" A voice off in the distance was trying to get through to him.
The image in front of him morphed into Lisa's half converted body. Her dark brown eyes looked up at him, lifeless. His hands covered in her blood. He was screaming, tearing his throat apart, but he couldn't hear himself.
"Ianto" Again the voice tried to get through to him and he felt his body being shook.
Looking back from his bloody hands he let out an agonizing sob. "No!" Lisa's body had gone and their staring up at him was Jack. His blue eyes were devoid of all life.
He was sobbing uncontrollably, unable to get away from the accusing image in front of him.
Wet lips were suddenly crushing against his. Snapping his eyes open he found himself staring into the same blue eyes as before. They were sparkling with life and worry. His mind focused in those big blue eyes and be fore the lips could be taken away he had grabbed Jacks dark brown hair and pulled him further into the kiss. In his eagerness their teeth clashed. He drove Jack backwards through the open French doors. Jacks knees buckled as they collided with the bed and Ianto ended up landing on top of him.
His heart rate increased as he tore open Jacks shirt, buttons soaring into the air. He continued mercilessly pulling off Jacks white undershirt. Their kiss broken he gazed down at Jacks chest. He watched in deafening silence as it rose and fell from his partner's heavy breathing. His normally calm hand shook as it approached the soft skin. Not touching him, Iantos fingers traced the well defined muscles, halting to lingering over Jacks heart.
Slowly Jack reached for his hesitant hand, grasping it he held it down tightly against his chest. Iantos breath hitched as he felt the rhythmic beats below it. Jacks other hand came and lifted Iantos chin, caressing his wet cheeks. It was easy for Jack to see the pain in his partners blue eyes. His soul ached, unable to do anything to cease the pain. He felt so useless. The strong and handsome 'Captain Jack Harkness' could do nothing to ease his partners pain.
Having lost himself in a wave of tears he cried. He let his mask slip and bawled his eyes out in the arms of his Captain. This was the one man Ianto would never lose.
