A.N.: I'm re-reading Vampire Academy, and going through and finding parts I'd like to change, or put more into. Enjoy –Anna.

"The best guardians always had that bond," I said, and then added, "in the stories." Headmistress Kirova looked angry again, angrier than before, if that was possible.

"Stories that are centuries old," she exclaimed. "Surely you aren't suggesting we let her stay at the academy after everything she's done?"

I shrugged, was that really what I was doing? "She might be wild and disrespectful, but if she has potential-"

"Wild and disrespectful?" Rose interrupted, the fire building in her was nearly visible. "Who the hell are you anyway? Outsourced help?" Oh, she was angry, that would have been funny, if it wasn't so wild and disrespectful.

"Guardian Belikov is the Princess's guardian now," Kirova said, "her sanctioned guardian." Rose looked ready to explode, I could almost hear the next witty remark on her lips. I just didn't know it would be directed at me.

"You got cheap foreign labor to protect Lissa?" Rose looked like she almost felt bad about what she'd just said. I watched her pick up a lock of her hair, and I realized for the first time how pretty she was. With her exotic skin tone, her dark eyes and hair, she looked like a desert princess. But she had called me 'cheap foreign labor.' How could one girl be so beautiful and hurtful at the same time? Did I just think beautiful? About an under aged girl? Oh, this is NOT good… Headmistress Kirova's exasperated voice pulled me from my thoughts.

"You see? Completely undisciplined! All the psychic bonds and very raw potential in the world can't make up for that. A guardian without discipline is worse than no guardian."

"So teach her discipline. Classes just started. Put her back in and get her training again." I didn't want to think about Rose leaving, which was strange. I didn't even know her.

"Impossible. She'll be hopelessly behind her peers."

"No, I won't." Rose said, but nobody was listening to her.

"Then give her extra training sessions," I argued, becoming desperate.

"Who's going to put in the extra time?" Kirova demanded of me. "You?"

That's not what I meant! "Well, that's not what I-"

She crossed her arms, looking satisfied that she was going to be able to get rid of Rose. I frowned, and I looked at the two girls. I tried to see two girls who had broken out of school, evaded being rescued for two years, and used up half of Vasilisa's inheritance. But, sadly, I could only see two girls with sad, pleading eyes, looking increasingly pathetic.

"Yes. I can mentor Rose; I'll give her extra sessions along with her normal ones." Kirova glared at me, obviously upset by this.
