Equivalent Exchange

Al's eyes slowly opened, wait...They opened! Al could feel the coldness of the floor, a large smile crept its way onto his face, he was in the same style of clothes on the day him & his brother attempted human transmutaion. He moved his fingers & jumped to his feet

"...Al?" Ed smiled, it had worked! It had really worked!

Al looked over at his brother, he could see his automail finger tips that came out of his ripped glove "Brother?" The last thing he saw of Ed was him lying on the floor a wound threw his stomach, in a pool of his own blood, his honey colored, no, golden eyes emotionless. He ran over, throwing his arms around his brother & pulling him into a tight hug "I'm back!"

Ed smiled, wrapping his arms around his brother, hugging him back "I know Al"

"But brother, your automail!" Al said, he wanted Ed to be able to feel everything to, with all of his limbs

"I'm fine Al, you're back to normal, that's the only thing I wanted"

The two brothers made their way outside, making Al shivered, it was cold. Another smile intruded his face, he could feel the wind!

They walked through the streets, Ed enjoyed watching Al, he looked so happy.

As the weeks went by Ed & Al got their own house & began living a normal life. Ed resigned from the Military so he didn't have to risk his life anymore, which made Al extremely happy.

Al was happy that he had to look up to look into his brothers eyes. He opened his eyes once the sun light touched them. He sat up & rubbed his eye, now he had the job of waking Ed up. He got out of his bed, he hated going into Ed's room, it looked like there was an elephant living there & it couldn't fit into the bedroom without making a giant mess.

Al pushed the door open, he let out a sigh, Al held his nose to block out the scent of month old noodles & rotten apples. He then gasped. Ed wasn't breathing! He then noticed his room was actually...Clean? The smell was just a remainder of Ed. Al noticed a note on the bed & quickly picked it up, he began to read...

Human Kind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return, to obtain something of equal value must be lost, that is alchemy's first law of equivalent exchange, in those days, we really believed that to be the worlds one & only truth.

In order for you to gain your body back, I promised the gate my soul after spending a year with you, that day was today.

I saved you time by cleaning up my room, so you can't complain to me! Oh, & don't do anything stupid, spend my money in anyway you want, sell the house even. Go live with Winry & Granny, I don't care, just be happy Al.

Love Ed.

Al's eyes widened, tears fell from his eyes, to his cheeks, to the floor "Brother...NO!" He fell to his knees, his body shaking violently from crying "Why? I thought we were going to be happy forever!" He got up shakily & walked over to his brothers body, he placed a hand on his cold cheeks, he was hoping they would be warm like they usually were, but they were just cold, saddening, as cold as death.

Al shook his head "Equivalent Exchange..." He whispered "I've never hated it so FUCKING MUCH!" He never swore, but in this situation it was perfectly fine, he fell to his knees once again, resting his head on Ed's chest, placing his hands on either side of his head, he started to cry, more violently then before. He was so lost without his brother. He felt so empty so...

Alone.

Yes alone...Not Winry, not Roy, not Hawkeye, not hughes, not Gracia, no one could fill his lonliness, no one...He had lost his favourite person in the whole entire world...His brother.

End.
