Chapter 1. The morning after
It was a quite morning. The Castle of the New King of Narnia was silent after the coronation and the ball that prolonged all night. The sun didn't stand up yet and no sound could be heard through the forest.
A lone figure in flowing long black cloak silently glided into the forest. The trunks of the trees were touched with long elegant fingers as she passed and a beautiful smile graced the face of the woman.
The figure was indeed a female, a beautiful, slender girl with long black hair falling down her back and rosy cheeks that brought out her sad big blue eyes. This girl was the Legendary Queen of Old, Susan the Gentle, the Radiant Sun.
A whole year passed since she had been in Narnia and yet it didn't feel like her Narnia at all. But at the same time it reminded her of another country, the one she thought of as home, the one where her heart had been left.
She sat down near the cool stream and stared at herself in the smooth surface of the river. She smiled at her reflection but it was hollow and so like her. She breathed out in defeat.
"Morning, my Lord," said Queen Susan as soon as she heard hesitant steps behind her.
"Morning, my Queen… I…"
Queen Susan didn't have to turn around to see that Caspian was chewing on his lip nervously. Such a foolish boy, no, no, a King, he was.
"I shall go, my Queen, I didn't want to disturb you from your thoughts," said Caspian turning around to go in the direction he came from.
"Nothing can disturb me, my Lord. Please, sit with me"
When he sat down, Queen Susan finally looked at the boy who was a newly crowned King. Yes, he had matured since her siblings and she had come here, but even now all she saw was a frightened boy with brown eyes that were starring at her in, dare she say, admiration and something close to liking. But then, how could this fretting boy hope for the love of Queen of Old, the Marksman Queen, the Gentle Queen? He was a King who called for four ancient monarchs to help him claim his throne and free Narnians. She was a Queen on her own who didn't need a King to rule.
"Don't fret, my Lord, it doesn't suit those of a royal title. Ask what you want, but be ready to hear no answer"
"Why have you never been married, my Queen? I've read a lot of times that you had so many suitors but you've never agreed to become their Queen…"
Queen Susan was surprised about the question a little bit. It was rather unpleasant to her. But she could tell him, couldn't she?
"It's a long story, my Lord. No one before heard it and no one after you will hear it. The only reason I'm telling you is that you can learn much from it. The story is about things that brave men faced in order to save their land from evil that is far greater than human eyes see. This story is about friendship and love that won't stay forgotten"
