Title: Rule Number Two
Rating: PG-13 for a bad word.
Disclaimer: Still not mine.
Notes: A slightly-too-long drabble from Claire's POV. Claire/Jack again. (Anyone surprised? Of course not.)
The case is closed. The accused has been sentenced. Our job's done for today.
It was wrong and I know it was wrong and he knows I think that, and he turns his back to me and pours himself a glass of scotch.
Rule Number Two: Never discuss work while drinking. A handy way to shut down a conversation he doesn't want to have.
He used to make an exception for me. We'd argue and butt heads over drinks and then go back to work in the morning like nothing had ever happened. Now he just sits back and pretends he doesn't notice – pretends he doesn't care.
Pretends I don't care.
Put down that goddamn decanter and talk to me, Jack.
