A/N: I'M SSSSOOOOOORRRRYYY! I've been dead for a while, so that's why I haven't written in forever... Not sick, just dead. Zombies and such. I'm also sorry that this isn't a new chapter on Finality, like it should be. I want everyone to spam my inbox once every week or two to write Finality! Together, we can do this! Also, see what I did with the title? Blood, tears, and rain = red, white, and blue! ^^ I'm so clever, herp derp. All right, well hope you enjoy! (I wrote it at 3:30 AM with no sleep, so if it sucks, that's why... D:)
I held his crumpled body in my arms, shielding it from the rain with my body. I watched in silent agony as more crimson sifted through my fingers. More life. Even through my gloves I could feel the light flickering of his heartbeat. Fading... My fault. Everything...
"Alfred..." I managed to choke out.
Blue eyes slowly opened at the sound of their owner's name.
"Good morning, my love," came the reply, thick and dulled by pain, but still packed with false enthusiasm. He winced as a tear made contact with the hole in his side. I cursed myself for making his last moments any more miserable.
"H-hey, it's OK, you don't have to cry, I already know you care." He made a raspy attempt at a laugh for my sake. Finding it ineffective, he continued a bit more seriously. "...They really got me good, huh? Looks like it's the end of the road for me... Tell Iggy I love him, but remember, he's second only to you." He smiled, his eyes blanking out to picture his old friend as the happiness returned to his eyes. "Don't tell him that though," he said, wagging a finger in the air ever so slightly. But rather than make me feel better like he had intended, it just reminded me that death's icy grasp was closing around him. "But hey, don't worry big guy, it's not the end of the world. There are still lots of pretty women and handsome men for you to go after." His smile flickered, and he gasped and twisted in agony for a moment before relaxing. Too much. I snuggled his body into me, trying to make him more comfortable.
"I-Ivan..."
"Alfred! Please!" I shouted at him as if I could bring him back by begging hard enough.
"I-I'm glad... that I could spend my last moments with you..." He wrapped an arm around my neck, pulling me down into a gentle kiss. I could taste the salty iron of blood on his lips, making me hyper-aware that this would be the last time I touched him. We broke apart, a choked sob escaping my lips as I saw the last flicker of life in his eyes. A sight that was sadly not foreign to me, but ten times as painful to see on his face. Once-bright eyes slid shut, never to open again. His mouth quivered, just barely mouthing the words,
"I love you"
I screamed, finally letting out all the built up pain and grief, my mind flooding with the all too familiar sensation of loneliness that he had saved me from so long ago. Tears flowed like the rain around me, soaking everything with sadness. His last words were the only thing penetrating my screaming brain.
"It's not the end of the world."
And he was right. It wasn't the end of the world.
Just my world.
