A/N: I wrote this a few months ago and wanted to post it at a certain time. But I can't wait any longer so make note of the date.
March 23
Cindy paused inside the diner's doors and did a quick scan to make sure her three friends were already seated in their usual booth. She took a deep breath and squeezed the hand in hers to summon up the courage to go through with her plan.
Jill was the first to see the redhead approaching and when she choked on her drink Lindsay and Claire turned their heads to see the source of their friend's distress. What they saw almost had them choking as well.
"Scooch over." Cindy said to Jill with a wave of her hand while she sat down next to her. She sat close to her friend to allow room on the end of the bench for Denise to sit down.
Jill simply looked out the window in disbelief while Lindsay and Claire stared at the fifth member of the now crowded booth.
"Don't worry, I'm not staying." Denise informed the group.
"Right," Cindy began hesitantly. "We just thought that we should do this together." She glanced at Denise and cleared her throat. "Actually, she wanted no part of this but I wanted a witness."
"The point?" Lindsay tried to push the conversation to it's end.
Cindy sat back and nervously fiddled with the cuffs of her shirt. "Yes, the point. Okay, here's the point." Cindy looked into three pairs of expectant eyes that all blinked when Denise put a comforting hand on her shoulder. "We're getting married."
"What?" Lindsay and Claire exclaimed in unison
"You can't!" Was Jill's reaction. When Claire placed a soothing hand over hers Jill amended her statement. "Legally, I mean. Of course, you are two consenting adults you can do whatever you want." She tried her best to sound supportive, and not throw up.
Lindsay had many things she wanted to say, but decided they would be better said without Denise around.
Claire took a deep breath, so as to appear calm. "Are you sure about this?" She asked of Cindy. Then, not wanting to offend Denise she widened her gaze, "I mean it is kind of sudden, for both of you."
"Does it bother you?" Cindy asked them timidly.
Either suddenly very thirsty or not wanting to be the one to answer all three friends picked up their drinks.
At that moment Denise decided to enter the conversation, "we just thought it would be best for Jr. here to have two parents," she said as she placed a hand on Cindy's stomach.
The redhead was suddenly sprayed from three different directions. Frowning she grabbed a napkin and looked at Denise. "You did that on purpose."
"You're right," Denise agreed as she stood up. "You were also right about this being fun." She turned and began to walk away.
"That last bit wasn't part of the plan," Cindy called after her as she scooted out of the booth.
She looked back at her confused friends. "April Fools," she laughed timidly.
"It's not April yet." Lindsay growled.
"I know but I couldn't resist and Denise is going to be out of town on the first," Cindy explained as she went out after her accomplice.
Jill sat silently shaking her head, trying hard to erase the last ten minutes of her life.
Claire simply smiled.
"Why are you smiling?" Jill asked incredulously. "That was so not funny."
"No it wasn't," Claire agreed. "I'm just thinking that I have one week and a room full of tools."
"You're assuming she makes it to April," Lindsay added.
Nofret: I hope this lives up to your expectations.
