Wendy's mother left the room silently. The children had just fallen asleep and she didn't want to wake them. She crept downstairs. Wendy was turning into a young woman now. She was fourteen but she looked older. A whooshing sound awakened her peaceful sleep.
Wendy looked around. A giant blue box was standing in the center of her room. She looked at her brothers, surprised to see that they were still sound asleep.
A door on the side of the mysterious blue box opened. A voice echoed from inside. "Doctor? Where are we?" It was a females. A man began to step out of the box. Wendy buried herself under the covers. "I'm not entirely sure, Rose. The TARDIS brought us here and won't let us leave so they're must be something important happening."
"Doctor?"
"Yes, Rose?"
"Are we in a nursery?"
"I believe so."
"Huh."
Wendy heard a soft buzz, and held her breath. She could practically feel the man's eyes turning to her direction. He and his companion stepped closer. Wendy held perfectly still. "Come on, sweetie," the woman's voice said softly. "We know you're awake. We don't bite promise." The woman's hand reached to comfortingly post her back. Wendy sprang up. "Don't touch me," she spat. The women stepped away from her. "I'm sorry. I'm Rose, and this is the Doctor." Wendy looked suspiciously at the two. "Doctor who?" Rose sighed. The doctor pulled out a slip of looked at them both and then back down at the card. Her eyebrows raised. "You're a teddy bear doctor? How in the world does one make a living fixing teddy bears?" The man looked offended. He turned to his companion.
"Rose? Do i really seem like a teddy bear doctor?" She inspected him.
"Yes." The man, this doctor, stood with his jaw slack. Rose turned back to Wendy. "So has anything unusual happened lately, sweetie?" Wendy looked at them and the blue box pointedly. "Besides us." Wendy shook her head. "You sure?" She nodded. A rattle came from her desk drawer. Rose and the doctor looked behind her.
The doctor pulled out a small object that looked like a pen with a blue lantern attached to it out. He pushed a button and the buzzing noise she heard earlier resumed. "Both of you," he said sternly, "behind me." Both obeyed silently. The pen looking thing was still in his hands. Still on. Still pointing at her drawer. Dreadfully slowly, the lock clicked. A dark figure bursted out. It looked ominously at the doctor and Rose before rushing out the window.
"Doctor?" Rose said quietly. "What was that? " Both Wendy and Rose turned to the Doctor. He had gone pale."
"They were a myth. They were supposed to be a myth. A story."
"Doctor, you're scaring me. What was that thing?"
Wendy looked at them both, confused. Why was it so scary? "It's just Peter's shadow. He leaves ot here all the time."
Rose looked at her. "Peter? As in Peter Pan?" Wendy nodded.
"He was supposed to be a myth," the Doctor whispered understanding his breath. He ran his finger through his deep brown hair. "A myth."
The girls looked at him again. "Doctor?" Rose asked, timidly.
"Rose," he said. "Have I ever told you about Vashta Narada?"
"The shadow creatures? I believe so. Yes."
"Have you ever wondered where they came from?"
"Where?"
"It was supposed to be a myth."
"What Doctor? What was supposed to be a myth?"
The Doctor turned to look at her. "The Neverboys" he said quietly. He sounded scared. Terrified.
"The Neverboys," Wendy repeated after him.
"The Neverboys."
