if you loved me--
It's been a while, he thinks, while sipping cold coffee in the middle of the night, but sometimes, Romario hears his boss crying into the sheets, a silent mantra of "Kyouya, Kyouya, Kyouya…" The spot next to him is always cold, but lately it seems to have become even colder if possible.
"Happy birthday Kyouya. Happy Valentines. Merry Christmas. Happy New Years!" Kyouya neither smiles nor acknowledges his existence, much less his presence. Pen meets paper, scritch scratching in a meticulous manner. He ignores. He is ignored. "I just wanted to see you."
It's heartbreaking, when he wakes up in the morning and is greeted by a red-eyed Dino, who smiles at him and reassures him that everything is alright. But he doesn't know that his tears are Romario's tears, his sorrow is Romario's sorrow, his pain is Romario's pain. Sometimes Romario thinks that the boss doesn't know just how much he means to his men.
"We don't get to meet much anymore." Dino whispers, and the boy by his side sniffs a little. "How's it going?" But he gets no answer. Despite this, the blonde haired Italian smiles. "I've been alright." He continues, and he spends the rest of the night talking, because for once Kyouya does not stop him. And eventually, fingers must untangle and hands must part and they go their separate ways again.
Boss doesn't know that Romario hears him whispering at night. He knows that he wakes up everyday to an empty bed, and even though it's always been empty, it hurts so much more now, since the spot next to him will never be taken again. He knows that boss saves all their pictures, and raises small yellow birds, and eats Japanese food more often now. He knows that boss still has that red disciplinary tie, and those metal tonfa hidden somewhere in his room.
Time does not stop to wait for Dino. The future does not stop to wait for Dino. But most importantly, Kyouya does not stop to wait for Dino. And lately he seems to be even further, seems to be running away, as Dino reaches his hands out to grab the end of his jacket. But he misses, he always misses.
Boss doesn't know that it hurts so much when he smiles at his men now, because his face is cold and stoic despite that expression that used to bring warmth. He is always tired nowadays, but keeps insisting that he's fine. Romario knows that he will not rest until Millefiore is brought down to their knees, for doing what they did, and more.
"I miss you." He whispers. It used to be to the other, but now it's to himself, in the now cold but once familiar room. "I miss you, Kyouya." If he whispers long enough, will he come back? If he whispers long enough, will the world fall down on Millefiore? If he whispers long enough, could he see him again? "I miss you."
And Romario knows that nothing will matter even if he knows, because Dino has stopped listening to anybody but the pain in his heart. And it's okay, because if it's his boss, he will follow him to the ends of the world.
Kyouya didn't deserve to live the carefree life that he did, but Kyouya was too wonderful to die. Dino wonders if Millefiore knew this before they cut him down, and as he fingers his whip, and as he pulls the trigger and for a moment his world is red. For a moment, his world is Kyouya, until he is pulled back down by reality and he realizes just what he's done.
Romario drops the coffee mug with a soft 'bump', as he greets his boss good morning, and in a minute, they will be walking out the double doors and into the flaming world that is breaking with every second.
a/n; I wanted to make this beautiful, because the idea was beautifully depressing, but I'm just not good enough. Sorry
I also love Dino's men to pieces because they're so loyal and they love their boss. It's so sweet. aljdlkgja reborn! is full of sweetness. I need to write fanfiction about another series. heh.
