The Other Side
Mihay's POV
Huh, where am I? I look around to take in my new surroundings. This room eerily reminds me of my old quarters at the EASA test site, odd because the last thing I remember was my granddaughters saying their goodbyes to me as my vision faded to black in that retched bed. I never liked being there.
I take a deep breath before trying to rise out of bed. Turns out it didn't take any effort at all. As if driven by pure instinct, I walk over to my locker and discovered my advanced flight suit along with all of my gear. I dress quickly, check myself in the mirror then I hear a voice over the PA.
"Colonel Shilage, report to the tarmac. Colonel Shilage, report to the tarmac."
As I walk down the hall, I discover the base is completely deserted, I try calling out for my comrades, Wit and Seymour but I get nothing in return. This is very odd I thought to myself. They always joined me when I headed out for a trip to the kingdom, my one true kingdom.
I finally reach the tarmac where I see my SU-30 shining brightly beneath the sun and two crew cheifs waiting to greet me. As I approach they salute sharply and I respond in kind.
"Your jet is ready, sir." The one to my left said.
Thank you, do you have any idea where we are? The last thing I remember was dying in front of my granddaughters.
"This is the afterlife, sir. You can travel as far as you want in this realm. Oh, and Three Strikes stopped the drones back on Earth and he's still flying.
Then mankind's future in the skies is in good hands I replied before climbing into the jet and closing the canopy. Sol One to control tower, initiating preflight startup.
"Copy, Sol One. You may taxi when ready."
Roger. After running through systems and getting green results on each, I rolled out onto the runway and put the plane in takeoff position. The reeve of the engines sounded the same as they did back on Earth. Sol One to control tower, I'm ready for takeoff."
"Roger, Sol One. You're cleared for takeoff."
With that I speed down the runway and enter a vertical climb upon leaving the ground. Engines burning brightly as I climb towards the sun. With no weapons, I climb even faster. I level out at fifty-thousand feet and execute a series of maneuvers before flying towards a gap between two clouds. Behind my mask I crack a big smile for I have truly returned to my endless home, my endless kingdom.
Fin.
