Disclaimer: I don't own Criminal Minds.
This little one shot's been in my head for awhile now and I thought I should jot it down. For jimmy-barnes-13, who asked me to do a one-shot on a needle-phobic Reid. Enjoy and please R&R!
"You coming, Reid?" Morgan asked as he passed the young man's cluttered desk. Reid looked up from his file.
"What? Oh, no. You go ahead without me."
Reid tried to put a convincing smile on his face but Morgan saw right through the act.
"Reid, you know have to do this. So why not just get it over with?"
"Morgan, I'll get it done later."
"No you won't." Hotch entered the conversation. "Come on, Reid. It's not that bad. And you need to get it done now so that you can be cleared to travel again."
Morgan looked at Reid and his face clearly said "I told you so."
Reid glared at Morgan and then turned back to Hotch.
"Why do I need to get it? I hardly ever get sick anyways."
"Reid, it's not up for discussion. You need to get your flu shot and you need to get it today."
"Come on, Reid. Hotch and I will go with you."
"Fine." Reid sulked. He put his paper back in the file and closed it. He stood up and followed the other two agents uncertainly.
When they reached the conference room where the needles were being administered, Reid stopped in the door. Morgan turned around.
"You coming, Reid?"
"I don't know if I can do this."
"Of course you can, Reid. What's the worst that can happen?" Hotch asked.
"Um…I pass out."
"You won't pass out Reid." Morgan said encouragingly.
"I'm not so sure."
"Come on, Reid. Best to just get it over with." Hotch said.
"Fine, but don't say I didn't warn you."
"Fair enough." Morgan said leading the way. The three agents filled out the small form and then they waited in line. Hotch went first, rolling up the sleeve of his collared shirt. Morgan went next, and then it was Reid's turn. Reid shakily sat down in the chair and rolled his shirt sleeve up.
"Okay. On three…one, two, three…and little pinch." The nurse said with a cheerful voice. Hotch and Morgan watched as the nurse stuck the needle in Reid's arm and then as Reid began to slump over.
"Dr. Reid?" the nurse asked. "Are you okay?"
By this time, the nurse had removed the needle and was helping Reid lower his head. Morgan sighed and looked at Hotch.
"Well, I guess the doctor knows best."
Hotch just smiled and nodded.
