A/N: Word of advice: Do not, under any curcumstances, listen to Everybody Talks while trying to do your English revision, which so happens to be about the life of Shakespeare and his works (Julius Caesar and A Midsummer Night's Dream tie for favourite, if you care). It will only lead you to Tedromeda feels, which makes you puke out words and ruin your study time.
Disclaimer: JKR doesnt own. Oh, see, switched it up there. Keeping you on your toes. Just kidding, everything belongs to her. Except the play references used, they belong to England's (woo hoo) own William Shakespeare, and the inspiring and extremely catchy (so much so you want to smash your brains out because you just keep singing it) song belongs to the Neon Trees.
The thing about Hogwarts was everybody talked. It didn't matter what the subject was – Helena John failed her Transfiguration NEWT, Gwen Kirk shagged Anthony Samuels in the fifth floor broom cupboard, Carlos Richter cheated on Lauren Goodwin with Kara Donovan - if there was gossip, you could be damn sure they'd spread it.
You can only imagine how much of an uproar the school was in when the rumor that Andromeda Black was seeing Ted Tonks started.
There were the romantic ones, the ones who claimed their romance to be of Romeo and Juliet, the star crossed lovers with families at war, wanting to spend eternity together but not having the chance to.
There were the mean ones, the ones who claimed their romance to be of Julius Caesar, that Andromeda was Brutus, close to Caesar (who was being played by Ted), but would betray him in the end and have him killed like all other muggleborns.
There were even the even meaner ones, the ones who claimed their romance was that of Macbeth, that she, Lady Macbeth, was using him, Macbeth, the sweet, innocent muggleborn for her own personal gain, to rid the world of said blood status.
None of it was true though, the whispers and the opinions and the rumors. The only truth was that, yes, in fact, they were seeing each other, and yes, in fact, Ted was a muggleborn and Andy was a pureblood.
The likening to such Shakespeare plays was a perverse play on two innocent students' relationship, as if said relationship wasn't hard enough already, what with Andromeda's crazy relatives and all.
The truth was they were not the sappy, ridiculously in love, I'd rather die than be without you kind that was Romeo and Juliet; nor the betrayal kind that was Julius Caesar, and certainly not the power hungry, I'll use you like a puppet kind that was Macbeth.
They were more A Midsummer Night's Dream, rebellious and reckless, running off together, carving their own paths, defying all who stood in their way.
Like Hermia, Andromeda refused her father and his insistence upon her marriage to a rich and powerful man, instead choosing the least likely option, a relatively poor and thought of as trash boy.
Like Lysander, Ted tried his best to do what was good for Andy, willing to give her up even though every fibre of his body screamed at him no, promised to take care of her, and even though he was slightly blind sighted on the occasion, by other things much bigger than his control, he stood by her.
And while they had their ups and downs (as they did in the play), they were there for each other.
So the whole school could crudely liken them to such works, but both of them knew that their love was real.
And that was enough for them.
A/N: I'm a Shakespeare fangirl, let me flail in peace.
