"Alpha Force checking in, we're now at our landing site, Amber and Hex descending into forest." Li spoke into the helicopters radio. She waited a moment for headquarters reply before putting her thumbs up, Amber and Hex's queue to jump out of the helicopter. Hex nodded back and jumped out, only his harness supporting him. Amber followed, but not before testing her harness, it seemed a little loose but she didn't worry about it.
She landed on the damp forest floor with a dull thud where Hex was already waiting for her. "Took you long enough." He joked, Amber looked up with a sarcastic glare, "Making sure it was safe, my friend, just making sure it was safe."
Hex undid his harness and walked of into the deep green forest; Amber took a map out of her bag and followed. After about ten minutes of walking Hex turned around and asked, "Where to now, Amber?" Amber looked down at the map and then at her GPS.
It took a moment before she answered "North." She replied, pointing in the correct direction. Hex nodded and went to turn but then his cellular vibrated, it as a text from Paulo saying 'Operation aborted'. Hex crinkled his noise and texted back, 'Why'.
"What's wrong?" Amber asked, noticing Hex's expression. "Mission aborted." He replied, Amber groaned, "If it's because they're bored…" Hex's cell vibrated again, 'Forest Fire'.
Hex slowly turned around to see the smoke, Amber's eyes widened and she stood there motionless. Hex took no time in reacting; he turned in the opposite direction and started running but stopped in his tracks when he noticed Amber wasn't following.
He ran over and put his hands on her he shoulders, the look of terror was now gone but her eyelids were slowly closing, Hex knew what that meant. It was a mixture of fear and lack of insulin; in any event it wasn't good.
"Amber on my back, we're getting out of here."
