CHAPTER 1
Percy's POV
My name is Percy (Perseus) Jackson. I am 16 years old, and I love the water. As of now, I am currently sitting in a plane heading towards New York, thousands of meters up in the air clutching the armrests as if my life depended on it and in my head, it did. If you haven't guessed already, I'm terrified of planes.
"Perseus, calm down son, we'll be landing in New York soon!"
That was my father, he goes by the name Poseidon like the Greek God from the myths, which I always found really strange but I never really questioned it. My father and I have a strange relationship, we have great fun together, and I can trust him with almost anything but I always have to watch my mouth around him and treat him with the utmost respect. We often have moments where none of us knows what to say or when he closes off and hardens up.
Then there are also the times when we feels like tearing each others hair out (usually when I forget to watch what I say) but we act cool and collected to see who would give in first. My father is a marine-biologist, he owns a lot of aquariums and is a major business man. I guess you could call him really rich. The only reason he is coming to New York is because he needs to check on one of the biggest aquariums in New York which he owns.
Still Percy's POV
New York. I haven't been here in three years. I used to live here with my mom and go to Goode High School, until I was 13 when my dad asked me to move out to California for three years. I felt kinda bad leaving my mother here but to be honest, I hated my life in New York. I was that scrawny, stupid kid that was branded the school loser.
The one who was constantly bullied by the jocks and the one whom nobody seemed to notice (that is unless they needed someone to embarrass or humiliate). But now I am now longer scrawny or short. Over the past three years in California, I have grown quite a bit and I have focused on my swimming and athletic training which has given me a six pack.
I rang the doorbell to my mom's apartment and waited. Just as I was about to reach up to the doorbell once again, my mom opened the door wearing a blue apron and oven mitts. She was wearing a big smile as she gave a hug and a kiss on the cheek.
My mom is the most wonderful person in the entire world. She was supporting and extremely patient. Every time I came home with a D or an F in my many subjects, she would never get upset, instead she just congratulated me on my effort and told me that I would do better next time. She hardly ever got angry and if she did it, her anger would disappear almost immediately.
"Percy! I've missed you! You've grown so much! How are you? How was the plane ride?"
"Mom! You're smothering me!" I complained, laughing. "I missed you too!"
I walked into the apartment and saw my stepdad - Paul Blofis - walking out towards the door. His hair was wet so I assumed that he had just gotten out of the shower.
"Hey Perce! Sally's been going crazy waiting for you to come today."
"Paul! A mother is allowed to be excited for her son's arrival after an entire YEAR! Percy, honey, why don't you go up to your room and get unpacked? You need to be ready for school on Monday, and there is still so much to do! Oh, I almost forgot silly me! Once you finish packing, I've got cookies waiting in the kitchen!"
My head shot up.
"Chocolate chip?"
"Of course."
My mouth started to water. After all, my mom made the best chocolate chip cookies in the world.
"Blue chocolate chip?"
"Yes now hurry up!"
