Daine walked out of the court slowly, her legs aching from sitting in one position for so long. It had only been a week since Numair had asked for her hand in marriage. Although she thought it silly, Numair seemed to always be around the corner, waiting for her, usually with flowers or some such thing in tow. Today though, he hadn't been in the meeting about peace treaties between
Carthak and Tortall.
Kadar was a friend of Daine's; she knew that the treaties were just a formality. 'No matter how much of a pain they are,' she thought. 'And Numair skipped out on them today, leaving me to sit by myself through the whole thing.
As she turned the corner, Daine almost ran head long into a large group of admirers. What they were admiring and staring at though, she had no idea. Turning into a cat, she weaved easily through the crowd's feet. What she saw almost made her turn into a stark naked human. Almost. In the center was Numair in black breeches and a bright purple silk shirt. That though, wasn't what shocked the cat/girl. Numair was juggling five small balls, as colorful as his shirt, and filled with small beans.
Yowling quite loudly, Daine walked to the inside edge of the crowd. Numair smirked but his concentration remained on the balls flying swiftly through the air. Daine huffed and with a devious idea in mind sauntered, as much as a cat could, up to Numair and began to purr as she wove herself in between his feet and finally began to use his leg as a scratching post.
All five of the balls dropped to the ground with a loud thunk as Numair winced. "Hi Magelet" he said quietly as he picked Daine up gently, running his fingers through her soft gray fur.
"You weren't at the meeting" she yowled at him in annoyance at his absence.
"I did tell you I would take up juggling" Numair said before picking up all five of the once flying objects off of the ground as he returned Daine to the dirt. "Will you marry me now?" he asked curiously.
Daine yawned before walking off. "Maybe" she meowed as she headed to her room to change back to human form with clothes around her, to clad her body.
Numair laughed to himself as he thanked the audience for their time and left to go see Daine. Briskly knocking on her door, he expected and immediate response of the door opening but instead was made to wait outside the threshold of Daine's room for five minutes.
Opening the door slowly, Numair saw why it had taken so long. Daine had tried to tame the unruly curls he had come to love dearly. "Daine," he said, entering her room with a dramatic sigh. "What have you done?" Leading her over to the hair located in front of her mirror, he gently pushed her into it before methodically taking out all the pins with gentle hands. "I like your curls just the way they are" he whispered into her ear as she just stared at the both of them through the mirror, a light blush appearing on her tan colored skin.
She stood up out of the chair and turned to her old teacher. "And you look very good in purple," she said, stepping even closer to the lanky man. "You should wear it more often."
"Only for you" Numair said before kissing her gently.
