Alpha Squad

Wonder Girl was aware of many things, like Nightwing's past fling with former member, Zatanna, or even Batgirl's longtime crush on the acrobatic charmer. But, somehow, she remained oblivious to the increasingly-suspicious pattern that was forming whenever Alpha team needed two members. So it was a quite a shock when Beast Boy pointed this detail out.
"Why does Nightwing keep putting Wonder Girl on Alpha? I mean, no hard feelings, but she's not the stealthiest member around..." Cassie heard Garfield ask, through the wall, while sipping on her orange juice. After glancing around the deserted kitchen, she scooted closer to the wall, hugging her ear against it.
"Hm... well Nightwing must have his reasons," she heard Megan dismiss. And that was the end to the conversation. Cassie returned to her seat, staring thoughtfully at the half-empty glass. Why was she always on Alpha Squad? I mean, there were far more experienced members on the team. And although she didn't like to admit it, some were better at half of the missions Nightwing decided she was best for. Like stealth.
Thinking back on the events that took place Bialya, Wonder Girl sighed. Although she made up for it later, she did screw up rather badly. Though, Nightwing was alarmingly gentle and understanding about it, which was something that surprised her. As a protegee of Batman, she expected him to be a complete perfectionist when it came to missions, even though she knew his personality was nothing like his mentor.
Now walking down down the corridor, Wonder Girl heard a familiar voice come from inside the training room. Stopping suddenly, she turned and walked inside, ready to question her senior's decisions.
"498...499...500," Nightwing counted, as Wonder Girl slipped in. He turned his sweaty head to the approaching Cassie, and smiled brightly. "Hey Wonder Girl, can I help you?"
She shifted her weight nervously before pegging her question. "Er... yeah. I was wondering why you put me on Alpha last mission... I mean, if it weren't for me, you would've had no problems. I think we both learned from Bialya that I'm not exactly 'miss stealthy.'"
Nightwing stood up at this, appearing serious, before justifying, "well, because you need to get your feet wet eventually. After some time, you'll get the hang of it."
Wonder Girl, seemingly accepting this response, smiled swiftly before replying, "Oh, so that's the reason. Sorry I bothered you."
Nightwing took a large swig from his water bottle and slapped a white towel over his shoulder, before saying, "No problem. I just finished."
He took a few steps to the door, before suddenly stopping, as he turned his head to left. "Oh... and because I like having you around."
Cassie couldn't see the blatant smirk on Nightwing's face as he left the room, and stood in place. Feeling rather hot all of the sudden, Cassie held her face as her pulse quickened.
"Stupid, training room," she falsely blamed as she left, deciding to ignore her reddening cheeks.
…
Later that evening, Cassie found herself, yet again, on Alpha with Nightwing. This time, however, Nightwing identified her with a name he hasn't said before.
"Cassie, you're with me."
