CHAPTER ONE

Alex Rider walked into the 'Bank' aware of all the eyes staring at him.

He walked into Alan Blunt's office. He was head of Special Operations. The man always wore a suit, just a different one everyday. "Alex, nice to see you again."

Alex's eyes drew across the room to the woman sucking on a peppermint. "Mrs. Jones." he acknowledged her.

"Good morning Alex." She greeted him with a warm smile.

"Alright Blunt, what do you have for me?" He asked sitting across from a man in a business suite.

"Actually Alex, you need time off." Alan said.

Alex looked confused. "What?" he asked.

"Yes. After Scorpia, we decided that you need some time to think." He said in a final tone.

"But-" He tried to protest.

"No but's Alex. You and Jack will be living in America for one year. After that period of time, we will meet you and clear things up." He said and shuffled through some papers.

"Mrs Jones?" He asked.

"I'm sorry Alex, but you aren't ready to go back out there." She said in a caring tone.

Alex sighed, "So I don't get any say in this?" He asked.

"No." Both Alan and Tulip said together.

Alex sighed, "I'll see myself out." he mumbled and walked out.

"Welcome home Alex!" Jack said happily as they walked through a door to his new house. Complete with an indoor heated pool, 5 guests rooms, a huge kitchen and many bathrooms and a huge game room was what he was going to call home.

"Okay Alex, your room is upstairs and the third right." Jack said and dissaperaed into the kitchen.

Alex opened a door a found himself in a huge room. He had a balcony overlooking the water and a king size bed. It was different from his flat in London that's for sure. He walked out to the balcony and stood where the railing ended. He looked down to his yard where the pool was and his eye drifted to the pool to the right. There on a lounge chair was a girl with long blonde hair, and in Alex's point of view, perfect in every way.

"Hi!" She called up to him. He looked at the girl waving to him.

"Hey. I'm-" He yelled down again.

"Alex, the new kid." She finished for him and smiled.

"Yeah. How did you know?" He asked.

"I have my ways." She smiled.

"Alex! Dinner!" Jack yelled from downstairs.

"Hey, I've got to go and-" He started.

"And eat dinner." He looked at her weirdly. "I have my ways. Bye!" She waved and Alex went down to the kitchen.
