Warning: implied slash/yaoi, Relena-centric

Notes: Written about three years post my last major GW fic.

It was gently worded, with love and fallible hope dripping from every careful dip and curl of India ink. Relena saw a sharp slant to the words, as if the writer had wanted to express his wish and desire in a form that only she could understand. Years of work and anxiety were melded into the dots, and the great wide ocean spread its wings under the cream-colored letter.

She could almost hear the repetition of history as she ran a pale hand over the broken wax seal, and she wondered, for a moment, how much help they had received – or been forcibly given – by Quatre. The boy-man could be impossible to refuse when he set his mind to it.

There was something wrong with the light in her office. Her lonely, forlorn office that burnt crimson when the sun set and the sounds of terrorists and gunshots reverberated in a frightful way that called death to her mind. It was odd, but the light seemed to flicker in and out, as if the office had suddenly been submerged in water. Was the carefully spun threads she had woven into the tapestry of her life unraveling? She looked at the words, somewhat surprised at their delicacy, considering that they flowed from hands rubbed hard and raw by machines.

Underlying the words that asked – no, begged – for her to come, she sensed anxiety and misplaced faith that she would do the right thing and attend with smiles and acceptance. That a blessing would fall from pink lips that curved just so with amusement and joy.

Of course she would.

There was nothing stopping her besides cowardice and hesitance. Relena was once Queen of the World. There was nothing she could not do. It would be a weakness on her part if she refused or if…

Her lips trembled.

And Relena traced Heero's name with a finger and then she quietly bent over the invitation to the wedding and wept like a silly princess with a broken heart.
