This is a oneshot I decided to write during a study at school. My school hasn't blocked mwahahahaha! This is a real quicky, that takes place during the summer before 6th year, or HBP.There aren't really any spoilers, so even if you haven't read HBP, this fic is safe.
I also added this one little thing into the story. There is something wrong with it. If you can find what it is, then leave a review saying what it is and what you liked about the oneshot. Thanx!
Elbereth
The rain hammered on Draco's cloak as he crouched among the bushes on privet drive. Draco reached into his cloak pocket and fingered his wand as he waited for something to happen that he could report to his father. He had been there three hours and nobody had stepped out of the house. There was no noise, no yelling, no movement from inside. Nothing. Until he saw the back door open.
He watched as Harry walked out of the house into the garden clutching what looked like a muggle newspaper. The pictures weren't moving. He saw Harry sit down on a bench and start reading the newspaper. He decided to tell this to his father, not because reading the newspaper was a strange occurrence, but because it was one in the morning on a Monday. 'Harry must be reading yesterday's paper,' thought Draco as he watched what Harry was doing, hoping that something else would happen.
He watched as Harry seemed to skim through the newspaper, and then crumpled it up and through it into some magnolias. Draco knew what Harry had been looking for.
Flashback:
"I want you to watch Harry, what he does, and when he does it. Both strange and ordinary", said Draco's father. "He is being "protected" from the wizarding community by the Order of the Pheonix, so he will be hungry for information about anything that is going on in our world. He may even read through muggle newspapers hoping to find something out of the ordinary…"
End of Flashback
As Draco sat there, hidden among bushes getting drenched, he thought of sending a curse at Harry, just for fun. Then he realized how that would only lessen his value in his father's eyes, to blow his cover. That would prove to the Order of the Pheonix that some unwanted wizards knew where Harry was.
Draco watched Harry get up and walk back into the house with no noise at all. Draco was about to get up and creep closer to the house to look in through a window when all of a sudden ", Hello Draco."
Draco jumped in surprise and whipped out his wand to point it at the cloaked figure standing behind him.
"It's a little late to be out in the rain so far from home, hmm?" The cloaked figure raised their hood which revealed the face and long white hair of Albus Dumbledore.
"I was just.." Draco began, but was cut off by Dumbledore.
"I know very well what you are doing, not just at this moment. Why, Draco? You know the Order could protect you and your family"
"We don't need your protection," Draco said, trying to speak with power but unable to keep the tremble from his voice.
"Then I suggest you leave, Draco," said Dumbledore, staring down at Draco through his half-moon spectacles. For once, Draco listened to Dumbledore, and apparated off back to Malfoy manor, where he learned all night that he was very, very stupid for leaving his post.
