Snow White and her Queen
Part One
The Queen stood out on her balcony in her favourite purple dress and black cloak. She didn't know why, but she wanted to leave her private quarters. However, when she placed her hands on the stone railing, her eyes were drawn down to the stone stairs leading to the courtyard. On the other side of the courtyard, her step daughter was kneeling down and scrubbing the steps in nothing less but rags.
For years she had forced Snow White to wear the old clothes and to work as a Scullery Maid. But even the dirty, torn clothes couldn't hide her beauty. And it enraged to Queen. Normally the Queen would have walked straight back inside and slammed the doors shut behind her, but today, today she leant on the railing and watched as the young lady went about her work.
Snow White sat at the bottom of the stone stair case, scrubbing at the last step. She was almost done. All she had to do was wash away the soapy water and then she could go back inside. Standing up, she lifted the wooden bucket filled with clean water and threw it along the step, washing away every last soapy bubble. Smiling, she walked over to the well and sat down, looking down into the water as she quietly sung to herself.
I'm wishing (I'm wishing)
For the one I love
The Queen, who had still yet to move from her position on the balcony, stood up straighter at the sound of her singing. Sighing quietly at the wonderful sound, she folded her arms on the railing and leant on them, listening closely to what she was singing.
To find me (to find me)
Today (today)
Still looking down into the clear water, Snow White didn't see her Step Mother watching her very closely from her balcony. She did how ever see the little blue bird fly down and land on the opposite side of the well. Smiling, she held out her hand for the little bird to rest on as she continued to sing.
I'm hoping (I'm hoping)
And I'm dreaming of
The little bird tweeted happily as she sang, fluffing up its feathers as the wind swirled around them. Up on the Balcony, the Queen closed her eyes as the words of the song cut into her. Sighing once again, she pushed herself up and turned around. She hurried inside, hoping that she had not been seen by the young lady. However, Snow White had seen her. She had seen her just before she turned and left. It had surprised her greatly to see how sad the Queen looked. Swallowing hard, Snow looked back down into the well, finishing her song almost quietly.
The nice things (the nice things)
She'll say
Once the song was finished, the bird chirped and flew away, startling Snow White. "Oh, good bye!" She called after it before she herself left the courtyard.
The little blue bird flapped its wings until it was standing on the rock railing the Queen had just been leaning on. It peered through the dark red curtains and looked at the cloaked woman as she stared at her reflection in the mirror.
"I want her heart."
Chirping loudly in alarm, the little blue bird flew off as fast as its small wings could take it.
"I want her…" The Queen whispered as she sank down to the floor in front of her mirror brokenly.
More to come, but I don't know when.
Keep an eye out.
