It was a simple little thing really. Just a medium-sized stone, planted in the ground, with words etched in its face. But it was these words that made the stone special. They told the last tale of the hanyou, Inuyasha, as he tried to vanquish the demon man, Naraku. They were the only record left of his friends and of himself.
…………………………..*
Blood. That was all I saw. My blood, my friends' blood, my enemy's blood. That was all there was. My strength was waning, I had fought for hours, with little result. Naraku would win, I knew that. But that didn't mean I would just lay down and die peacefully. The little voice inside my head was telling me to get up and fight to my very last breath. So I stood, and the first line of a song I has heard a dying man sing came back to me.
"Here I stand, helpless and left for dead."
I grasped Tetsusaiga's hilt harder in my shaking hand and began to sing in a whisper as Naraku charged.
"Close your eyes, so many days go by,
Easy to find what's wrong, harder to find what's right.
I believe in you, I can show you,
That I can see right through, all your empty lies.
I won't stay long,
In this world so wrong."
I sang for Sango and Miroku, lying together, sharing their last breath in this world. They held each other close, blood mingling in their clothes, on the ground.
"Say goodbye, as we dance with the devil tonight.
Don't you dare look at him in the eye,
As we dance with the devil tonight."
I slashed and cut at Naraku, but every time I swung, I grew weaker. My enemy knocked me backward. I crashed to the ground, but got up again. I still sung, it kept me going, at least for now.
"Trembling, crawling across my skin.
Feeling your cold, dead eyes,
Stealing the life of mine.
I believe in you.
I can show you,
That I can see right through all your empty lies.
I won't last long,
In this world so wrong."
I sang for the enemies I'd slain, realizing they'd had families and lives as well. How I had quickly and easily ended some of them. Just like how mine was about to end.
"Say goodbye, as we dance with the devil tonight.
Don't you dare look him in the eye,
As we dance with the devil tonight.
Hold on.
Hold on!"
I sang for Shippo and Kiara, both gone before they could live their young lives. I hoped they would forgive me. They should have lived.
"Say goodbye, as we dance with the devil tonight.
Don't you dare look him in the eye,
As we dance with the devil tonight.
Hold on.
Hold on!"
Finally, I sang for Kagome, my love. Her beauty strikes me, even in her death. She will surely go to Heaven. I swung my gleaming blade, and it sung with me. But every time it connected, I was struck three times. My body could not hold out much longer, the next strike had me on my knees. The next left me on the bloody ground, and as I drifted away, I knew I would see Kagome, wherever hanyou's like I went. "At least, we danced together, Kagome, this last time." And with that, my golden eyes closed for the final time and I, InuYasha, was at peace.

A/N: Okay, this is really sad. But I had this dream, and just had to write it. Really freaky dream, right? But, anyway, this story is supposed to be on a stone, etched there by InuYasha's spirit right after he died. Once he did this final act, he left for wherever hanyou's go. Just thought I might want to clear this up! R&R, please!!!
