Chapter 1
" I'll never let go Ky, never." He tightened his grasp on her hand. "I wish we could stay like this forever."
Kya, a girl with midnight black hair which flowed to the small of her back, lay with her arm across her forehead in a patch of fallen leaves. The dark forest twinkled in an enchanted like way – and HE was there – which made it all the more special.
"Me too." She was surprised – her voice came out in barely a whisper. Kya turned her head over and met the gaze of Mace – the shaggy brown haired boy of her dreams. She liked how she could pick out the flecks of grey in his jet black eyes.
"Mace – what are you thinking? Right now….."
Mace kept his gaze locked on hers.
"Ky, I think I love you."
Kya felt her heart flutter in her chest a little. It took her a minute to respond. Hearing THOSE words, coming out of HIS mouth, directed at HER – it was like music to her ears.
"I – I love you too." Mace rubbed his thumb up and down Kya's hand. She shut her eyes and breathed in the crisp autumn air. She felt his lips touch hers for a bit longer than a second, and for a moment, Kya thought she heard her heart stop.
"Ky, promise me you'll never leave me. Can you promise me that?" Mace's face was full of sincerity, she could tell. She needed to make sure of that, because her heart had been messed with many times before – and she didn't want that to happen again.
"Of course. I promise."
A low rumbling noise came from behind.
"Haha, Ky, you must be hungry. Want me to get you some food or something?"
"Um….that wasn't my stomach….."
She lowered her hand to the hilt of her sword. She raised it out in front of her shoulder to check out the reflection.
"BOO!"
