1.
Katara leaned against Zuko's shoulder, feeling incredibly content for the first time in a while since the war. They didn't say anything; Zuko just combed his fingers through her hair languidly while she just smiled to herself.
2.
Zuko clutched him to himself, grinning his face off. That was great. Beyond great. Amazing. He, he didn't have words - he laughed at that. His boy, his baby boy, had just said his first words, straight to the Fire Lord.
3.
"I'm tired, Zuko," she yawns. "Carry me." She lifts her arms up lazily and Zuko just chuckles at his wife as he bends down to gather the Water Tribe woman in his arms. Both are mostly quiet in their whispers as the Fire Lord brings her back to their chambers, Katara mumbling odd ramblings to him about her day and he trying not to laugh too much at the pretentious nobles his Lady has to entertain on a daily basis. Eventually, she falls asleep in his arms.
4.
"Okay, so we've escaped your uncle and my brother; where to, good sir?" Katara teased.
"Very funny," Zuko groaned. "That took entirely too long." She giggled and grabbed his hand.
"You know they think we're having sex, right?"
He smirked. She hit him before pulling out her veiled hat from a discreet safe-box behind a bush.
"We're not, though, so stop hitting me," he complained as he pulled on his black gloves. She rolled her eyes and he grinned along with the blue mask.
5.
"Zuko?"
He glanced down at the dark skinned woman curled up into his side.
"Katara?"
She worried her lip between her teeth and he had to seriously restrain himself from kissing her. She obviously had something to say.
"What would you have done if I had gone with Aang?" she asked hesitantly.
He frowned. "What?"
"If... if we hadn't kissed after Azula..." she fingered his robe over his most recent scar, "and if I hadn't said no to Aang in Ba Sing Se, what would you have done?"
"About... you and Aang?" he questioned.
"Yeah."
He rubbed at his lightning scar absently, curling his fingers around hers when the digits brushed.
"Probably... probably nothing," he said.
"...Oh," Katara murmured.
"Not because I wouldn't care, because I would!" he hastily amended. "But... you're both my best friends. Obviously you more than him, but... I couldn't... I couldn't hurt you guys like that, if I thought you were genuinely happy together. It would suck, it would hurt like hell, but I couldn't do that."
