Crossing The Finish Chapter 1-Confusion
14 year old Lizzie McGuire sat with her head in her hands-gazing out her window into the world beyond. Memories flashed before her as a paper-boy rattled past their house. It wasn't Ronnie, however. Lizzie wondered if she would ever stop attracting people like that. However, the thought scared her that it might be her that would have to make the first move this time. Like most girls, Lizzie preferred to boy to make the first move. However this time it seemed as though that option was not available to her. It wasn't like Lizzie had no idea who she wanted to be with. She knew this..Gordo.
It was the thing Lizzie thought of most-the subject that was always on her mind. There was, however, an obstacle. Gordo was her best FRIEND. Not her boyfriend. But she knew that's what she wanted. It was rather hard to explain really. When she was with him, she just felt so wonderful. She got this feeling that electrified every inch of her body when he touched her in the slightest. A feeling that anything was possible if he told her she could. He was amazing. He didn't judge people before he got to know them. He treated the handicapped equally-handled them with so much care. So much caringness. He was always willing to help others. He didn't care what others thought. He was the one that had opened Lizzie's eyes to everything. Now she had much the same attitude as him-but they were still complete opposites.
Everything about him was wonderful. He was the most beautiful person Lizzie had ever seen. And his eyes-just something about them.. But they were by far the most amazing eyes Lizzie had ever gazed into. So blue.
Lizzie felt fairly alone in the world-her parents always seemed to go out. Her friends weren't there when she needed them. The one person that seemed to care about her-the one person that she couldn't remember a time that he wasn't there for her. Gordo. It was fairly obvious to him that Lizzie had a crush on him. Lizzie's mind went back for a moment to there phone conversation.. *************G: Lizzie? L:Yeah? G: Do you like me? L: Umm.what do you mean? G: You know, like, the other way? L: Ummmm G: Liz-ee? [Now Lizzie being honest and never lying to Gordo had to tell the truth] L: Yes. Yes Gordo.I do.*****************
He knew. But all same he didn't seem to take her seriously about the whole thing. She flirted with him. He didn't seem to mind it, and sometimes Lizzie thought that he was doing the same thing.
"Ow"! Gordo laughed as Lizzie pinched him. "Pinching is a form of flirting you know"! "Uh"! Protested Lizzie who was also laughing. Gordo then pinched her. "Ow"! Squealed a laughing Lizzie. "But Gordo"! "You just said it was a form of flirting"! Gordo smiled. "I know".
That seemed to just be one of the many times. He sent her mixed signals- though she knew him inside out, and he knew her inside out, Lizzie just couldn't figure out whether he felt the same way. Each night she prayed for courage to try and tell him.The right time and the courage never seemed to come. He called her every night and talked to her every night. She loved that about him. He was so fun to talk to. And he had a unique sense of humor that Lizzie loved. He seemed to act different when he was alone with Lizzie-he didn't make fun of her so much (though he had good intentions) and he complemented her. Lizzie just didn't know what to do. She knew he was the one for her. But Miranda had moved to Mexico and a recurring thought had hit her-she was on her own.
