My first attempt at angst, please read and review. Don't ask about nice Frex.

Elphaba sat huddled in front of a discreet fire, pondering whether or not she should ask her sister for help.

'Why should I?' she thought, bitterly, remembering that all Nessa had ever done to her was got her in trouble, even though all her life Elphaba had been basically a servant to her spoilt sister.

A eight-year-old Elphaba was about to get her six-year-old sister ready to go to the park. She walked through her sister's messy room, and accidently stepped on a doll. The head came off.

"I'm sorry Nessa, I'll fix it!" said Elphaba hurriedly. But Nessa had a spiteful smile on her face.

"Papa!" she called "Elphaba broke my doll!"

Frex rushed into the room. "Elphaba!" he scolded. "To the naughty step! You're not coming to the park!"

Elphaba shook her head. Would Nessa help this time, for once?

A thirteen year old Elphaba walked over to an eleven year old Nessarose. "Nessa, we've got to go now." She gently took the book out of Nessa's hands. But Nessa had the same spiteful smile on her face.

"Papa!" she called. "Elphaba took my book!"

Frex came in. "Elphaba," he chided. "Give Nessa her book back and say sorry."

Elphaba sat there pondering. There had been only one time when Frex had seen Nessa's true nature.

A seventeen year old Elphaba came to see what her sister needed.

"Elphaba!" Nessa screamed. "You know I hate these shoes!" Nessa dragged Elphaba across the room and pushed her down. Then Nessa started to literally, crush Elphaba with her wheelchair. Elphaba screamed. What both sisters didn't know was that Frex was watching from behind.

"Nessa!" he shouted. "What in Oz are you doing? Get off your sister!"

Nessa stopped and turned around. "F-father?"

"Nessa. To my study. Now."

As Nessa wheeled off, Frex knelt down next to Elphaba. "I better get you to hospital," he said.

Elphaba shook her head. Maybe Frex didn't hate her? He had left something for her at Shiz after all. He had given her a wallet with a thick wad of money, a pair of her mother's earrings, and a letter. It had read:

Elphaba,

I didn't give you this personally, because you know how your sister would have reacted. Please put good use to the money. The earrings were your mother's. She would have wanted them to be given to you.

Father.

'I'll go,' thought Elphaba. 'I'll see what happens.'

And with that, Elphaba flew towards Munchkinland.

How long is a semester? In Britain, we have terms. They generally last around twelve weeks-ish. Every six weeks we have half term holidays that last a week. You will probably find this a useless piece of info unless you are considering moving to the UK!
