Closing In On Me

Kate was hanging onto the ledge by the tips of her fingers. She couldn't breathe. She couldn't think straight. No, she pleaded. I need to get out of this. I need to pull through this. She didn't want to die. Not yet. Not like this. It wasn't supposed to just end like this.

"Castle," she whispered. She didn't want to say leave without a goodbye. "Help!" she cried. "Help!"

There was no sound for what seemed like ages. "Help!" she called out again.

"Kate!"

Kate hoped the voice belonged to the one man she's ever felt true feelings for. "Castle!" she yelled.

"Kate!" the man's voice yelled back.

"Castle! I'm over here!" she yelled. Her left hand had already slid off and her right one was just on the verge of doing the same. "Castle!"

Her right hand slipped off, but before she could fall too far down, someone grabbed her hand. It was a man's. She could tell by the size of it. He pulled her up using every single muscle he could.

"Castle?" she asked.

"Yes?" he asked her back, looking down at her.

"Castle?" She stared at him for a second. "You're here!"

"You sound surprised."

"I just… after what I said, I didn't think you'd want to see me-"

"Stop it right there, Kate."

She looked up at him. "You were right. They did want to kill me."

"Which is why I sat on my hands for a year."

Kate wrapped her arms around him. "If it hadn't been for you, I'd be on that sidewalk right now."

"Let's go over there," he said as he led her to a spot where they could sit. She was still clinging onto him tightly. "Kate, you can let me go now."

"No!" she yelled as they managed to sit down together. "No. Not after all this. No."

"At least loosen your grip, Kate. I can barely breathe and I pretty much lost feeling below my waist." She loosened her grip slightly. "That's better."

"I don't want to-"

"I know."

"Why are you here?"

"Ryan and Esposito called me. They figured you'd want me here." Castle held her tightly. "And I wanted to be here."

"But Alexis-"

"Tomorrow. She graduates tomorrow."

"Oh," she whispered. "I am so sorry, Castle. I'm-"

"Stop, okay? Didn't I say I'd be here through all of it?" She nodded on his chest. "Remember what I said? I love you, Kate. And I always will."

Kate didn't even move. "I was screaming your name. I didn't want to die without you knowing how I really feel about you."

"I know," he whispered.

"I shouldn't have pushed you away. I love you too much."

"Wait," Castle ordered, "Say that again."

"I love you," Kate repeated, realizing how easily the words flew off her tongue. "I love you. I love you. Castle, I love you."

The next move was even more effortless. She kissed him. And he kissed her back, their bodies doing dances together on their spot on that roof. Both bodies melted together.

"Tell me, Ryan, what do I have to do to get you to give me that treatment?" Esposito asked as the two of them made their way towards Castle and Kate.

"Um… I'm married, Javi," Ryan reminded him.

"Oh yeah," Esposito confirmed, feigning disappointment, which prompted a shoulder jab from Ryan. "Are you two alright?"

"We're okay," Castle told them, getting up and clapping both of them on the shoulders. "No, we're better than okay."

Kate got up and hugged both Ryan and Esposito. "Yeah, we are better than okay." Then she ran into the arms of where she belonged.
