A boxed off canyon

An AI

A freelancer

The need for completion

the need to fill the void of loneliness

Sometimes, I wonder if that canyon was the only boxed off during those years. I know first hand what project freelancer did, and why they did it. The director was a weak man, and never fully recovered from a loss. While you can read my fellow comrade Washington for more information on how project freelancer worked and the events that happened during it's prime, I'm here to inform you on the greatest man I know, and a real shame he's not even a man

Leonard Church from the moment I met him, was a pissed off man, and for good reasons. We were stuck in a strategically useless post, assigned, while the most innocent and well meaning soldier, Michael Caboose was also one of the dumbest people you will meet. On more than one occasion, Captain Caboose would end up damaging Leonard's body, causing him to spend most of his time with us as a hologram. Now while many would question how we lived seeing as a man down against a team as potent as the reds. The answer is simple. Leonard was never much of a soldier to begin with, and most of the people in that canyon weren't much better either.
Now I could go on about our misadventure in that boxed off canyon, but it all revolves around one subject. Alison Tex, a supposed byproduct when the original Alpha AI was made. She...she was a cruel as a shark, greedy as a jew, and an absolute bitch. But Church, for some reason never gave up on her. She could break him down, shoot him, betray him, and Leonard would still love her. I still wonder how a man like him let her go. Upon the recovery of the Epsilon Church from the hands of the UNSC, he seemed to snap more often, be more of an asshole then he was before, and it all seemed to stop when we stopped the Director...and his army of Alison Tex robots

Church did something during that fight...and I don't know what. One minute I was fighting in army of freelancer terminators with our crew of misfit soldiers, the next, we stand in a room full of empty shells.

Church after this seemed distant...like he was always lost in his own thoughts. Even on Chorus, Carolina said he would always be dodgy when asked questions about how he was feeling with sarcastic remarks and his usual brand of asshole. It wasn't until we all saw him flicker from existence did he reveal the truth.

He was dieing

Had been since the final fight against Project Freelancer.
Agent Carolina stopped using Church immediately to run her armor, not due to the fact that it would malfunction her armor, but with the hopes to extend his life. Rest her soul, she never got to see Church's last day. Through her actions of buying us time, not just for Church. but for all of Chorus, she saved us all. Months went by of Celebration upon the defeat of the criminals, and the people of chorus declared us all heros, and you can still visit the statue of Carolina today in Doyle City. Even with our victory of Chorus, Church seemed even more distant, until one day, he called all the Former Blues in. He took off his helmet, revealing a tiny holographic face, and expanded to our size. He looked solemnly at Me and Caboose, and said he was gonna die today. Caboose immediately burst into tears, and by god, I soon did too. Leonard hugged Caboose, saying that he needed Caboose to be brave, and that Agent Washington will take care of him now. He turned to Washington and thanked him for all he did for him and the blues, and to take care of Caboose

Leonard finally turned to me, and looked me dead in the eye

"I'm finally gonna see her again Tucker. I'm finally gonna see her"

and with that, my best friend turned around and faded away
