The creative juices must be flowing today! :) Another short one-shot that popped in my head while reading. Hope you like it.
As soon as Neal got back home he went to work; he was late so there were only a few hours left and a lot of things to prepare. First he started in the kitchen, he had planned a lovely spaghetti dinner with a salad, garlic bread and a chocolate mouse dessert, her favorite.
He set the pot of water on the stove and turned it on. While waiting for the water to boil he turned to the salad. He washed the head of lettuce and broke some of the leaves off. He cut these into smaller, more bite sized pieces and put them into a bowl. Next we chopped up carrots, tomatoes and added them, along with some croutons, into the bowl. He mixed the ingredients together and turned to the now boiling water.
Adding the spaghetti to the water he thought back to their first anniversary. A smile crept onto his lips at the memory. Neal took a small bag of meatballs out of the refrigerator and set them on a pan in the oven. He stirred the spaghetti a little more and soon it was done so he drained it into a colander and let it set in the sink. He opened a jar of sauce and put in in the pan, the he added the spaghetti back into it.
The main course done Neal now turned to the side dishes. He took out a loaf of Italian bread and prepared the garlic bread. As soon as the meatballs were done he replaced them with the bread and added them to the spaghetti.
Now he turned to the table, it already had a white tablecloth on it but nothing else adorned the table. Neal took out a wine glass, plate and silverware settings and set them up on the table. He then went into the small pantry and grabbed two candles out and placed them on the table. He placed the food on the table, got a bottle of wine out of the refrigerator and opened it to allow it to breath.
The food was done so now he went to get dressed. He decided on a pair of black pants, a white button-down with a red tie and an open black vest. He walked back to the dining room, turned the CD player to his Frank Sinatra CD, lit the candles and sat down. He took the wine bottle and poured a glass.
"Happy Anniversary Kate," Neal said to the air and started to eat.
Kate looked up from her dinner with a smile. She didn't know why but her heart skipped a beat and a feeling of love rushed over her. She looked at the calendar and, upon seeing the date her smile grew a little wider.
"Happy anniversary Neal," she said and turned back to her dinner, spaghetti with meatballs.
So, what did you think? Kate's not exactly my favorite character but this story just popped into my head and I just had to write it down. I hope you liked it.
