Title: and then the lights went out and all hell broke loose
Summary: Clary receives a positively ghastly wound. Jace is worried. Ooh.
just a little scenario because I was boorrreeed. it barely even makes sense to me. but I guess you could say it's set sometime after they find out their… "affiliation" to one another… so yeah. cake on a layer of angst, maybe?
(please ignore the obvious lack of background information)
"Clary!" Jace screamed as something barreled into her chest, knocking her backwards, springing a cry from her throat. As she landed, her head cracked against the floor and when she lifted her hand to her pounding chest, it felt slippery. A wave of nausea overcame her. She raised her suddenly heavy hand and was met with the sight of blood, crimson and alive as it slithered down her knuckles. And then pain exploded inside of her, as if some switch had been turned on, and suddenly, all of her nerves were ablaze and twitching.
Her sputters for breath came intermittent with moans and a rush of hopelessness tore through her, but then Jace's features were over hers, his lips moving wildly, his eyes darting over her wound.
"Shit… where's my stele!" he mumbled, frantically ripping through his pockets. When his shaking hands procured nothing, he quickly scrambled to his feet and whipped his head towards Clary, barely choking out an "I'll be right back" before she faintly raised her hand and clutched the hem of his pants, stopping him in his tracks. She absently noticed that he was trembling.
Her shifty eyes met his, but then she was recoiling, curling in on herself as another swell of pain surged through her. Through her lashes she could see blood sputter from her mouth. When she opened her eyes again, Jace was nowhere in sight and panic gripped her, but then he was sprinting back and skidding to a stop on his knees beside her. She was faintly aware of his shaky hand tracing a pattern on the bare skin of her neck, of Jace repeatedly whispering "Clary" through his quivering lips as if it was the last time he would ever get to say her name.
And just as everything started to fade to black, her vision came back to her with sudden clarity. She let out a gasp as she woke with a start, the sounds of Alec shouting from the other room reaching her ears, her own wheezing evident. Her darty eyes reached Jace's- he was breathing heavily, clutching his stele in one hand and clenching a fist with the other as relief clouded his eyes and he stared at her with something she couldn't quite place.
The pain had subsided, a dull ache slipping into its place. Her watery eyes desperately searched his gaze, conveying her silent thanks. Slowly, her hand crept into his and their fingers met in a hesitant embrace. In the back of her mind, some emotion, distant but not foreign, swelled and warmth grew in place of the throbbing in her chest.
But then Alec bounded over and the moment was gone.
Jace let go of her hand.
